Results From Weekend Rugby League Action

In recent touch rugby league action, a number of matches were played, with the league title wrapping up.

Renegades ladies were beaten by the Teachers squad 1-0, with Gillian Cross scoring the lone try.

In men’s action, Police took on a much improved Mariners team lead by Rory O’Kelly-Lynch, who accounted for 10 of the 15 points for the team. O’Kelly-Lynch scored a try, knocked over a conversion and a penalty to complement burly prop Dustin Archibolds try.

Police responded with tries from Chiquon Smith and Stephen Smit with the deadly boot of veteran Michael Kane leading the way with two penalties and a conversion. A tense see-saw encounter saw the Polcie eventually edge out Mariners 18-15.

In the second game, league leaders Renegades overcame a very valiant effort by a fired up Teachers team 23-17. Renegades locked up the league title with two tries from Conor McGlynn, and scores from winger Cedric Ennis and try scoring machine Jamie Baum.

Paul Kelly managed to knock over a penalty but was unsuccessful on his four conversion attempts. Teachers showed their fighting spirit and were competitive to the end. Winger Corey Boyce scored one try and a good day by Conor McGowan saw the standoff score a try,a penalty and two conversions taking his personal tally to 12 points.

With the league title wrapped up, all four teams will be looking to prepare for the up coming Nicol Shield with defending champions Renegades favoured to repeat their clean sweep of the trophies again this year.
The Bermuda Rugby Union are looking forward to hosting a touring side from the eastern United States with the New York Athletic Club [NYAC] rugby visting.

Two games are being organized for Friday, February 17 [Bermuda U19s] and Sunday, February 19 [Bermuda Select Side]. Both games will be played at National Sports Stadium and will be used as build up games for the RAN U-19 and Caribbean Championships.

National team coach Brain Archibald and BRFU YDO Patrick Calow will be looking to combine up and coming youth players with some of National team veterans in what promises to be an entertaining weekend of rugby.
