Video: Gombeys Perform At Carifesta
Over the weekend Bermuda’s Gombeys gave an energetic performance at the CARIFESTA 2017 opening ceremony in Barbados.
“CARIFESTA – the largest gathering of Caribbean arts and culture – is an opportunity for local artists and performers to showcase their talents as well as their goods and services to the world,” explained Bermuda’s Department of Community and Cultural Affairs’ Director Mrs. Heather Whalen.
“The theme of CARIFESTA XIII is ‘Asserting Our Culture, Celebrating Ourselves’, and the programme of performing and visual arts represents a melting pot of cultural expression from many countries of the Caribbean region. This theme speaks to the connectivity of the Caribbean region brought about by our common history and heritage,” Mrs. Whalen added.
According to the CARIFESTA website:”CARIFESTA embodies Caribbean integration. It is here that the people of the Region come together; co-mingle, creating one community, one people. That is integration.
“Further, this event strengthens the bonds between us, displays our creativity and ingenuity and demonstrates to the world the best that this Region has to offer. CARIFESTA celebrates our Caribbean being in a way that no other single event can.”
The festival is taking place in Barbados from August 17 to August 27.
