Hurricane Harvey: Support Red Cross Efforts

August 29, 2017

Over the past few days, Hurricane Harvey pummeled Texas with one of the worst storms in recent American history, threatening businesses, homes, and lives with catastrophic flooding.

Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas called the storm “one of the largest disasters America has ever faced,” and said the region would not recover anytime soon.

The death toll in Texas had reached at least 12 people, the Washington Post reported, but they warned it could rise as authorities pursue reports of people apparently lost in the torrential downpours unleashed by Harvey since Friday.

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said Tuesday that officers in the city have rescued more than 3,500 people so far amid Harvey’s flooding and devastation.

Still, the full scope of the disaster remained unclear, as the Houston mayor said officials are “still trying to assess” how many people are missing or being rescued.

In response to the events, the Bermuda Red Cross said: “We know everyone has seen the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey in Texas, so we wanted to make sure you had a way to help make a difference.

“The American Red Cross/US Government has not sought international assistance for the thousands of victims of Hurricane Harvey, so Bermuda Red Cross cannot launch an appeal to assist.

“However, please use the link below that will allow you to make a donation directly to American Red Cross to support the relief efforts they doing. Donate to the American Red Cross here: redcross.org/donate/donation.”

Give to Salvation Army. With Red Cross less money actually goes where it’s needed.
