Committee To Examine Sex Offenders Legislation

MP have approved a Joint Select Committee to examine “how we manage the information relating to sexual offenders and how we protect our communities simultaneously.”

The Motion was brought by MP Renee Ming and said, “Whereas it is acknowledged that the public are becoming increasingly aware of incidents relating to sexual offenders, and these incidents are alarming and create widespread concern as to how we manage the information relating to sexual offenders and how we protect our communities simultaneously;

“Be it resolved that this Honourable House establish a Joint Select Committee to examine, review and make recommendations, and report to this House its findings on existing legislation which addresses the necessity for a public sex offenders’ register along with other pertinent matters relating to convicted sex offenders.”

The Motion was supported by both parties, and the Speaker announced that the members will be Renee Ming [PLP], Michael Weeks [PLP], Chris Famous [PLP], Jeff Baron [OBA], Craig Cannonier [OBA], as well as two members from the Senate.

    This should not be difficult for them. There are plenty places where info is readily available online showing who did what & where they live. Not just sex offenders but violent criminals too.
