Minister: Causeway, Schools Remaining Open

March 5, 2018

Government Offices will remain open, the Causeway will remain open, and there will be no early closure of public schools, Minister of National Security Wayne Caines confirmed today.

This comes as the island continues to experience inclement weather, and the Bermuda Weather Service has issued a Storm Warning, Gale Warning and Thunderstorm Advisory for today.

9-minute live video replay of the press briefing:

A Government spokesperson said, “The Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne M. Caines, JP, MP, advised this afternoon that all Government Offices remain open. Additionally, the Causeway also remains open and there will be no early closure of public schools.

“As the public is aware the Bermuda Weather Service [BWS] advised that inclement weather continues to linger in our area. Due to the unsettled conditions, the Ministry is encouraging residents to exercise care and caution when travelling around the Island, particularly cyclists and motorists.

“Lastly, the public should adhere to official information issued from the Emergency Measures Organisation [EMO]. For weather related updates visit”

Inspector Steve Cosham said the Causeway will be monitored, and pointed out that winds will build again in the evening, and noted the winds are coming out of the west which is “favourable to the Causeway staying open” which “as we saw on Saturday, put the Causeway in the lee, it was protected by Grotto Bay Hill.”

Officials stressed they will be monitoring, and are ready to make changes if needed, with the Minister noting that the public will be notified if anything changes.

Bernews will generally post EMO and other official notices within minutes; you can view our live updates here, and all our coverage of the storm here.
