June 18, 2018

[Updated with videos] Thousands of people are taking part in the multi-day Bermuda Heroes Weekend, which kicked off with the ‘Five Star Friday’ event on Friday, continued with the Raft Up at Shelly Bay on Saturday, and the Pan In The Park on Sunday.

The Cirque Du Soca J’Ouvert celebration took place early this morning [June 18] at Bernard’s Park, with large crowds of attendees watching the sun rise while partying to Soca music and enjoying live performances.

The BHW weekend is set to continue today with the Parade of Bands at Clearwater, and we will bring you coverage of that later today, and in the meantime you can see all our coverage of BHW here.

I’m sure this was lots of fun for everyone there. But for the thousands of us who got kept up all night by the ridiculous music – no fun at all. Does this need be all night long?

I really hope we are making a tourism fortune, because this needs justifying.

    • shrew says:

exactly. if it’s not bringing in a FORTUNE of tourist dollars it needs to end earlier.

Don’t worry – it will go the same direction as the Music Festival did soon enough.

I agree. Whatever happened to no noise after midnight? Our house was rattling.

Manufactured holiday and culture by the PLP. I’m in my early forties and don’t any remember of this Caribbean Carnival being part of any holiday, or anyone demanding it take place. This is just trying to identify Bermuda with the Caribbean, an area that is the same distance from Bermuda as the Maritime Provinces of Canada. It seems that the leadership of the PLP long for their ancestral homelands in St. Kitts and Nevis from which they are less then a century separated from perhaps they should leave, and leave the Bermudians, both black and white who have centuries of history to dtermine this island’s future.
