Princess, Mosher, Oil Sponsor Sandcastle Event

Hamilton Princess & Beach Club and Alexandra Mosher Studio Jewellery today [Aug 20] announced their joint title sponsorship of the 2018 Bermuda Sandcastle Competition, with additional sponsorship provided by the Oil Group of Companies and beverage donations provided by John Barritt & Sons.

The Bermuda Sandcastle Competition, which takes place at Horseshoe Bay Beach on Saturday, September 1, will see up to 50 teams competing to create Bermuda’s best sand sculpture out of the island’s signature pink sand, for $3,500 worth of prizes.

An overall prize of $500 will be awarded to the most impressive sandcastle on the day with a further $2,500 worth of cash prizes to be won across four resident categories.

Visitors can win $500 worth of gift vouchers at Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, which can be used at the restaurants and bars at the resort or at the exhale spa. The five categories in which teams can enter are:

  • Families
  • Children [under 12 years old]
  • Teenagers [13 to 19 years old]
  • Open
  • Visitors

The visitor’s category is open to those on vacation in Bermuda at the time of the competition, whether they are staying at Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, another hotel or with friends or family.

For entrants who want to have a trial run or get some tips on how to build a sandcastle, free workshops and tutorials are being offered at Horseshoe Bay Beach on the following evenings from 5:30pm:

  • Saturday, August 25th
  • Thursday, August 30th
  • Friday, August 31st.

The event will be an exciting competition for the teams involved and we encourage the public to come and see the sandcastles being built.”

The competition on Saturday, September 1 is free to enter, and teams can register online at www.sandcastle.bm. Alternatively, there is an online sign-up station at Alexandra Mosher Flagship Store & Studio at 5 Front Street, Hamilton. The number of spaces for teams is limited, so early booking is encouraged. Competitors must check in between 9:30am and noon on the day and building will commence at 10am. Each team will be assigned a building plot of 10ft by 10ft and will be supplied with a large mound of sand to work with to give them a head start.

“All entrants will receive free beverages on the day thanks to a long standing partnership with Barritts Ginger Beer. All sandcastle building tools must be downed by 4pm, at which time the judges will arrive on the beach and commence judging. The panel of judges includes: Lynne Matcham – Architect, Jamal Hart from Youth Sport and Recreation, and N’zingha Ming from the BSOA gallery.
