Column: Continue To Fight For Bermudians

November 2, 2018

Dennis Lister III Bermuda Jan 2018[Opinion column written by MP Dennis Lister III]

As the government seeks to execute our agenda and deliver on the promises made to Bermudians, we must also remain vigilant against those who seek to spread misinformation, create disunity, or undermine that work.

With the PLP’s mandate it would be easy to be arrogant and ignore the forces that seek to undermine our agenda and the peoples desire to put Bermudians first.

In opposition we fought against an agenda that saw Bermudians marginalized in our own country. Yet while that agenda was thoroughly discredited and overwhelmingly rejected last year by Bermudians, we must never forget that there are those who still seek to implement the agenda.

You can see it in Craig Cannonier’s praise of Michael Fahy, the orchestrator of the OBA’ s anti- Bermudian immigration agenda.

You can see it in MP Scott Pearman and Senator Nick Kempe fighting against the wealthy, elite and privileged paying their fair share of taxes

You can see it in the growing calls from the OBA for further loosening of immigration policies and a return to their failed, rejected anti-Bermudian approach.

As we focus on getting more Bermudians hired, trained and promoted and as we focus on getting more Bermudian business leadership and ownership, we must also continue to fight against those who oppose that vision.

We cannot and will not remain silent when misinformation is spread.

We cannot and will not remain silent when attempts are made to create disunity

We cannot and will not remain silent when the work being done to put Bermudians first, drive down the cost of living and create a better, fairer Bermuda are undermined.

The OBA may not have learned their lesson from the people’s rejection of their agenda, but the PLP has certainly learned our lesson from their time in office.

We have learned that when it comes to putting Bermudians first, there will always be those who will find an excuse, reason or rationale to oppose it

We have learned that when we take on the forces that keep you unemployed, keep your wages low and keep your bills high, there will always be those who will find an excuse, reason or rationale to oppose it.

We have learned that there are those who will never accept, never support, never embrace a better, fairer Bermuda.

So we will not be distracted. We will not be deterred. We will not be swayed. We will continue to fight for Bermudians by implementing our agenda and fight against those who seek to return to the days of “anyone but Bermudians first.”

  1. Double S says:

Basically this article condemns the same behaviour the PLP adopted whilst in opposition. Even their so called ‘former’ leader boldly stated that they will utilise misinformation whilst in Opposition.

Once again the PLP is on a ‘do what I say and not what I do’ tip.

So Mr. Lister do you actually have anything of substance to say regarding progress made since July 2017? or are you simply now being groomed to be the younger Chris Famous who writes poorly written pieces with absolutely no substance to them?

    • Onion Juice says:

Well spoken young man, even if you dont agree what he says ya gotta give credit for his social and political awareness, where as if he was partaking in anti-social behaviour like some of his peers, I cann see you having a point of bi!€#ing and complaining.
You are on the right track young man, dont watch de haters, your Forefathers went through worse.

      • Huh? says:

Lister said nothing, he just made up a rant with anti opposition unfounded emotional gibberish. Keeping himself in a job seems his aim.

Clearly this man has nothing of substance to offer the people of Bermuda.

What has he done for Bermuda?

      • 2 Bermudas says:

De titty milk has messed up his eyes and his brain!! Ha ha ha!!

  2. red rose says:

Please! STOP behaving like you are in Opposition! And please Mr Lister – actually do something with the Road Safety Council! What happened to the campaign you promised?
Stop with this and DO something!

    • None of ya damn business says:

First of all, he has been elected for one year. He has done a tremendous job on the road safety council by implementing these road side sobriety checks which are reducing the amount of drink drivers. He is ONE person and doesn’t make all the sole decisions on what happens. Instead of you wasting ya damn time commenting on Bernews how about you put forth ideas of things you wish to see changed and shut the hell up. That goes for anyone out here undermining the works of Dennis Lister. Be grateful that it is one less young black man involved in criminal activity who is helping other young black man get their lives together.

  3. sandgrownan says:

Yup, as expected, Lister fully fails to understand basic economics and the point and peddles a bare faced lie. Clueless, arrogant and incompetent.

    • None of ya damn business says:

Another person that just talks to talk. PLP said that they cannot do their jobs without the help of idiots like you. Therefore stop wasting your hot breath on Bernews and voice your concerns and suggestions to them so it can get done. They are humans just like you and I. Enough of the discouraging black men and actually help them to help you.

  4. DeOnion says:

Why does the PLP have to behave in this way? This is not the way a party in Government behaves – they behave like this when they are in opposition.
And I agree with the comment re the Road Safety Council – Mr Lister needs to tell us what he is doing with the $25K the RSC was given for a road safety campaign?
While he writes rubbish like this, people are dying on our roads.

    • None of ya damn business says:

Another one sitting on Bernews waiting to say negative things about a black man trying to make a difference in the lives of the motoring public. Again I reiterate if you have nothing positive to say then come off Bernews and direct your comments directly to him. None of you fools on here are brave enough to call him up and say what you have to say. Go long and actually do something productive with your mug lives.

      • Anbu says:

Another one sitting on bernews waiting to bash anyone with valid points, when it comes to saying anything potentially negative abt your beloved pee el pee. And throw in a few comments to somehow make your comment valid. It doesnt. None of us are brave enough? Why wouldnt we be? We supposed to be afraid of you? Hahahaha. Oh man have you got that twisted. Grow a pair.

  5. Something is Majorly Wrong says:

this guy is a joke. BERMUDA NEEDS MORE PEOPLE!! WE ARE DYING ON THE VINE!!

    • None of ya damn business says:

He may be a joke now but you been a joke since the day you was born and that ain’t never gonna change. Get up from round here with ya negative energy

  6. PBanks says:

Yeah I wish he had spent some of his energy on discussing any Road Safety Council initiatives, but alas, political nonsense trumps all in Bermuda.

    • Wahoo #3 says:

It appeals to the masses it is what gets people like OJ out of bed for lunch. In the mind of the plp they do not need to do any real work propoganda will retain power.

  7. Codfish says:

Dear Premier Burt. This guy is a loose cannon and you need to shut him down. There are things in here that he has condemned that you as a reasonable and sensible leader must consider. One of the earlier comments is right – the PLP is not opposition so must be strong and confident in their decisions, not reduce themselves to picking away at the OBA with twisting of facts to suit a negative agenda. This doesn’t do anyone any favours.

  8. WSP says:

Whats up with these wannabe PLP politicians.First it was Crystal Ceasar now this guy,you do relize that you are the sitting government, no need to be so defensive, the PLP already brainwashed the electorate to vote for them.

  9. Aware says:

You don’t need to campaign, you can govern. Get on with your agenda.

  10. Rocky5 says:

    More Trump tactics from PLP.

  11. Question says:

“…..we must also remain vigilant against those who seek to spread misinformation, or create disunity….”

Like those idiots who keep saying the OBS doubled the debt (it didn’t), or that the AC cost $100m (it didn’t)? Is that the kind of misinformation you’re going to ‘remain vigilant against’? Because up until now the PLP just keep repeating their pack of lies.

  12. Let's Keep It Real says:

He just a neophyte Politician, who contradicts himself! Read his material closely

  13. WethePeople says:

We,the people, have the final say,on affairs in our land and we will not step back, nor down, from “putting us first”!

We’ve recently realized our collective power and we will wield it when appropriate.

    WeThePeople.

  14. Lol says:

Didnt want to see the troll comments so I scrolled right down to make my comment,…..Well said Mr.Lister. That’s all they have been trying to do is sabotage!! Always in their playbook to do so. The fact is they are scared because they know this is a different PLP and a different time where ppl are waking up to the hypocrisy of our opponents. Fintech is going to revolutionize Bermuda and there mad they didnt come up with the idea instead they banked on sailing….Keep up the good work, but we are still far far behind and it’s going to take a consorted effort from all of us to make Bermuda successful…

    • wahoo #3 says:

You didn’t read my comment? That explains a lot about why things are the way they are.

    • Blankerchief says:

      They’re mad* and you’re delusional.

  15. aceboy says:

Misinformation huh? Like crypto currency is NOT going to provide jobs? Like the debt problem caused by the previous PLP government is being ignored at this country’s peril, like taxes will stifle not benefit the economy? None of that type of misinformation? We just have to “believe”?

You want robots not independent thinkers. Robots you program.

  16. puzzled says:

Bean tellin yoo guys and gulls four yirz det it wunt bee lahong.

    10/20 yirzs…nuffin laft.
