CURB Release Updated Racial Justice Platform

February 25, 2019

Citizens Uprooting Racism in Bermuda [CURB] released a newly updated version of their Racial Justice Platform.

A spokesperson said, “The Racial Justice Platform has been amended and updated since it was last released in 2017. Legislative changes are necessary, but there is also a moral responsibility to repair past injustice, and both Black and White Bermudians need to recognize the legacies of the past that are still present today, and be motivated to take action together, in dialogue with each other, to pursue social restitution on an individual, community and society level for those that have been harmed.

“Many ideas are focused on government; however we recognize that civil society, working as individuals or as communities, can take action in parallel and work on institutional programmes focused on education, land, employment and services that can be considered social restitution.

“The 2019 Racial Justice Platform includes items we believe are essential to creating a more equitable and just society. We urge the people of Bermuda to review these recommendations with an open mind, and endorse the concepts detailed in CURB’s updated Racial Justice Platform as a way to heal our society, repair the damage, bring about greater equity, and create trust and respect in the community.

“CURB’s Racial Justice Platform is a living document and will be added to and amended as new research is obtained and feedback is received from the people of Bermuda and members of the Truth & Reconciliation Community Conversations.”

  1. Racial injustices will continue, with or without CURB.
Hence, its function is useless, especially as it pertains to black people.RACISM in BERMUDA, IS WORSE.
Curb will not make any difference.

      Hey shut ya face.

      Boo Hoo

    • Pork & Bean says:

I agree with Straight Forward. Recent events prove that CURB is tone deaf when it comes to racist attacks on certain people in this community. Where was the statement from CURB or CURE last week when a white referee was racially abused and attacked at a football game in Somerset? Where were they when the walls were painted on North Shore? Had those attacked been directed at others in this community we would still be hearing about it – and rightly so. However, when attacks are directed at foreigners, whites, members of the LGBT community and even certain religions, hardly a word is said by these groups, government ministers, the BFA, and talk radio. Why has nobody been banned? Surely there is video tape! Surely someone knows these people. Why have no arrests been made? Why do we not hear much about these hate filled attacks? Because the government and these groups pretend to want equality for all, when we all know what they really care about. Themselves and their own friends, family, churches and agendas!

It only seems to matter to CURB, CURE, and Government Ministers when one segment of this population is affected, mistreated or attacked. Racism is NOT a black only issue. Call it what you want but it is about ignorant and unjustified hate! Race aside, attacking and abusing someone and hating them because they are different than you, is wrong! CURB, CURE, Ministers, Churches, when you ignore it – you support it!!!! When hatred is someday directed at you or your loved ones – and nobody reacts – well you will know why.

Are you “poorly spelled sign lady”? Or are you “l’ll have a smoothie on hunger strike if I’m hungry lady”?

    • BermudaMan says:

So, basically, your logic is “can’t win, don’t try.”

While nihilism might be popular in some philosophical circles, it isn’t the slightest bit helpful in this particular situation.

  2. grump says:

Let’s repeal section 3 of the incentives for job makers act 2011 because these job makers are ‘certain types.’ We would rather not have the jobs they create than welcome them to Bermuda.

  3. Ringmaster says:

CURB is taking a very simplistic approach. The fact the PLP have dropped any inquiry into the Tucker’s Town land purchases shows even they know it is not a simple black/white issue. I’m sure they have discovered some very inconvenient truths as to wealth distribution that can’t be rectified.

    • Paul says:

      Curb,is so one sided.

      • Really says:

Really? Show me this apparent systematic racism that some whites complain about that doesn’t exist. There is only ONE form of racism and that’s white supremacy

    • Really says:

Wait a minute, when did the PLP say they wasnt going through with the inquiry and commission on that?

    • BermudaMan says:

Really? You’re still scrounging for ways to slam the PLP after the OBA practically ran the entire island into the ground? Please at least TRY to read a book that doesn’t already agree with you. Just once in a while.

      • Toodle-oo says:

The OBA practically ran the entire island into the ground ? ? I think we’ve all heard some pretty outrageous BS lately but now my head is really spinning.
So , here’s a quick , simple question for you . There is no doubt that confidence in Bda has plummeted since the last election . Why do you think that is ?

      • Double S says:

Please explain how the OBA practically ran the entire island into the ground?

Was it the revitalization of the tourism industry via the formation of the BTA?

Was it more than halving the inherited PLP $400mn deficit?

Was it procuring an international sporting event to our shores?

Was it getting major developments off of the ground (ie hotels & airports)?

Was it returning our consolidated fund audits back to unqualified status (note that the PLP’s first audit saw it returned to qualified once again)?

I challenge you….no I dare you to provide examples of your claims. b

  4. Ben S. says:

    What a load of nonsense….

  5. Question says:

Is CURB now in favour of equality in voting rights?

    • BermudaMan says:

Do you even have the slightest clue what you’re talking about?

  6. Goaltender Interference says:

The minute it defended the Minister’s racist insult against the Chief Justice, it lost all credibility.

If you aren’t willing to call out racism when your friends do it, you aren’t really an anti-racism group.

  7. aceboy says:

CURB is fulfilling its goal of keeping racial issues burning bright and to ensure it is front of mind. Ignore the spin budget, focus on the important stuff, like keeping a portion of the population angry and feeling as if it owed stuff!

  8. comfortably numb says:

Curb, People’s Campaign, BIU are all the PLP need to retain power.
