June 11, 2019

Bermuda’s Tyler Butterfield recently finished seventh competing in the 2019 Ironman Boulder, with 40 qualifying slots to the 2019 Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii up for grabs.

Butterfield crossed the line in a time of 8:44.08. Matt Hanson from the United States picked up the win in a time of 7:57.03, while fellow American Kenneth Peterson came second in 8:01.35; Timothy O’Donnell made it a USA podium clean sweep when he finished third with a time of 8:09.37.

Butterfield clocked a time of 54.03 on the swim that took place in the Boulder Reservoir. He then covered the bike course in a time of 4:22.45 on a multi-loop course which was contained within Boulder County.

Butterfield then closed out with a run time of 3:18.20 on a winding course through residential neighborhoods and the Boulder Creek Trail.

Butterfield said, “I’m still smiling from the Boulder Ironman. It was nice to feel that passion for doing a race just to do it. No other reason than deep down I do just love doing triathlons; I hope and don’t think I’ll ever lose that.

“It was also so exciting to see my cousin Scott McCalmon do his first Ironman and crush it in 10:22; you are an Ironman.”
