Aranxta King Breaks Bermuda Triple Jump Record
In a weekend that saw Bermuda’s athletic records fall three times, 2008 Olympian Aranxta King broke the triple jump record with a leap of 12.93.
Her record setting jump came while she was competing for Stanford University at the Pacific-10 Conference Track and Field Championships in Oregon this past weekend.
One of the island’s premiere athletes, Ms King has won medals at the Carita Games, CAC Games and Pan American Junior Games. She is the 2005 World Youth Champion, a three-time Massachusetts state champion, and represented Bermuda at 2006 Commonwealth Games and the 2008 Olympics.
In what was an excellent weekend for Bermudian track and field, Shianne Smith shattered the Bermuda National Heptathlon Record, and Aaron Evans broke a 25 year old 800 metre record.
To top of the great weekend by overseas based athletes, Carifta medalist Henry Carty-Stevens won both the 800m and 1600m at the Georgia State Championships.
Impressive, now Gov need to stop placing all money into cricket and football and support the track athotes
