Bermuda To Host 2010 Caribbean Tourism

CTOlogoSTCsiteThe Caribbean Tourism Organization [CTO] today announced Bermuda as the host country for the 2011 Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development. The event will be held in April 2011 at the Fairmont Southampton Princess Hotel.

The announcement was made at this year’s conference in Barbados. Senator Marc Bean, Junior Minister of Tourism and a Department of Tourism representative were at the Conference, and Senator Bean made a presentation on Bermuda to the delegates to invite to our shores for the event

The Conference is part of the information dissemination and regional awareness component of CTO’s Strategy for Sustainable Tourism. It looks at how CTO member states can design and implement sustainable tourism policies and programs, offering a regional forum for information exchange on the successes and pitfalls of national, regional and international initiatives.

This year marked CTO’s Eleventh Conference on Sustainable Tourism and was held in St. Michael, Barbados from May 9th to 13th. The conference was well attended with more than 250 participants from all over the Caribbean region, US, Canada and Europe.

Director of Tourism William Griffith said:

I am delighted that Bermuda was chosen to host next year’s Conference. We at the Department of Tourism are confident that we will host a first-class conference and highlight our experience with sustainable development and tourism.
