July 13, 2010

Consumers paid 2.8% more in May 2010 than they did a year ago for the basket of goods and services included in the Consumer Price Index. The all-items index decreased from 113.9 to 113.5 index points in May. This means that the basket of goods and services that cost $100.00 in April 2006 now cost $113.50. Although many sectors rose, the Tobacco and Liquor sector retreated 0.1% for the month, which was due to a 0.5% decrease in the average cost of beer.
