This extravagant PLP gala is SO ELITIST and self-serving it makes me ill. The Paw-tee Lovin’ Party fer sure.

And Pat, this “article” reads more like an advert to me. Which may say something about Brenews’ journalistic integrity. Just sayin’

    • bernews says:

Article contains the info, and how to obtain more info about the event – same we have done literally dozens of times for months for various events. To date no one has complained when we use the *exact* same procedure for music concerts, environmental, sports, fundraising, or church events.

If we had chosen to make a change to our ‘event posting procedures’ specifically, and only, because the event is hosted by a political party – now that would have drawn complaints that we were showing an anti-PLP bias.

We post event info in a similiar manner for all events – regardless who hosts them.

      • Dufus says:

Garbage – doesnt read like an advert at all. Keep up the good work Bernews!

      • bermyguy says:

you should have to explain ya self to who start and love drama…the person is a loser….keep up the good work bernews

      • Starman says:

        Fair enough.

  2. Concerned Bermudian says:

What a joke!! Some events for the lost kids in Bermuda would have made more sense! I don’t think people would mind having such a gala if Bermuda wasn’t in such turmoil! What has the premier done to warrant such an ELABORATE PARTY???? Crime is up….Debt is up…everyday that I read the paper their are a handful of BLACK kids going to prison!! What is there to celebrate???

  3. Seriously? says:

Not sure I’d call this a “star studded weekend”. More like people famous for being related/married to people who are famous.

Although I’m as excited as anyone to see him go, I’m not $500 a person excited. I’ll take that $500 and throw my own party to celebrate the end of his dictatorship.

  4. Un-be-freakin-lievable!! says:

$500 a seat? $1000 ‘silver level’?? Who the heck does he think he is?? Elton John?? He has done nothing worthy of a farewell gala!! The people of Bermuda should be having a “Don’t let the door hit you” gala!! And someone please tell me – where is all that money going?? Mortgage, Private security, legal fees???

  5. Big splash says:

    ‘First Lady’ ….

    bwahahaha

  6. what a joke says:

This is an absolute joke!! A tenure full of lies, deceitful intentions and racist provocation is going to be celebrated? unbelievable! Bermudians need not put up with this blatant disrespect.

  7. Rockfish#2 says:

This Farewell Gala is an embarrassment to Bermuda, and is nothing but an attempt by Brown to leave on a high note, while hoping that Bermudians forget his pathetic record as Premier. Surely he must realize that most of, if not all his overseas guests and stars are aware of his track record, after all, they read newspapers and have computer access, along with Bermuda connections.
On another note, who is this First Lady, and who bestowed the title? Can we now expect a Sir Ewart in January?

  8. faulkner.stickel says:

At the end of the day, the only person Dr. Brown is fooling is himself. The reality is that he has been the most sectarian, divisive, nasty, vulgar person to have ever had held high office in Bermuda – in short, the worst Premier this country has ever had. And this is not the half of it.

  9. Strange says:

A protest outside the event. That may dampen the mood!!

I hope they are not using this to make a profit. What is the message we are sending to Bermuda with self serving elaborate events like this? I doubt Ewart will be living in this country in the next year or so. He could not care less what happens to it and neither could his cronies. Stand up, speak up and shut up Bermuda. Let the grace of God judge them for their selfish living.

  10. FRUSTRATED says:

Really would like an answer as to where the $$$ are going!

  11. wiaruz says:

First Lady’s Luncheon? Is Michelle Obama coming? the wife of a Premier of a British Overseas Territory is not referred to as a “First lady”.

  12. Fred says:

You should al be ashamed of yourselves showing such disrespect to the Premiere. Whats wrong with him havin a gala? He deserves it, he has worked hard for us, you are all so ungrateful.

he has made many Bermudians wealthy through his redistribution of tax dollars instead of serving the old established colonialist cronies. You people just dont like somebody different gettin some.

    Sore losers..thats what you are

    • faulkner.stickel says:

You should learn how to spell – Premier not Premiere. Also, respect is earned not given. As for redistributing the wealth, you must be joking – Dr. Brown’s twelve years in Cabinet and in particular his last four as Premier are a text book example of Crony Capitalism. And by the way, his closest “business” associates are all white and mostly American – but for the laws of libel, I would name and shame.

    • Strange says:

He deserves it! If he is so well respected someone else would throw him a party to show their apprecaition for the failing education system, huge dept, lack of jobs, corruption, gang violence, crime and oh not to mention the lack of hotels and decrease in tourism over his reign. Hard work, he did a good job at lining his pockets and now he will go retire in California, leaving behind a Bermuda that has little time left as the Jewel of the Atlantic, the future of this Island is in real threat from Social problems, all bred by ignoring the real issues, modernising when we needed to and greed.

      • Fred says:

so you lot ignored the black community for many many decades leaving them in poverty and without education and now you wonder why you have a crime and corruption problem? So in Mr Browns short term he is somehow responsible for all the islands ills. You are all doomed, not because of Brown or the PLP. It is because of your evolution over the last 100 years. Greed has been the driving force in Bermuda and now the results are coming home to roost you seek to blame one individual or group of. Brown is an opportunist and the past governments and business leaders let the back door open for populace politics to suceed. A vast ignorance is clearly displayed in these ridiculous forums, do the smart thing….leave…..there is nothing left.

PS..sorry for the spelling mistakes…if you paid that much attention to what was really going on you might be able to save yourself…hahahahaha

        • faulkner.stickel says:

Indeed, there is nothing left. Dr. Brown seems to have spent it all on his nouveau riche party piece and in so doing completely and utterly betrayed the legitimate, honest aspirations of the PLP and those who vote for it. The tragedy lies in that this Jamaican/American educated crook has coerced, manipulated and lied in ways that are so alien to the Bermudian psyche that honest politicians such as Alex Scott, Dale Butler, Terry Lister, and, yes, even Dame Jennifer Smith had no idea what had blindsided them until the Party apparatus was completely infiltrated by those vested in the Brown patronage syndicate and fools who are still stuck in the 60s and 70s and buy into his vile, race-baiting lies.

I will add that in my experience legitimate, hard earned money does not have a color and goes to where it is safe and respected. Fred, the smart money is laughing at your collective ignorance and has already migrated. The only losers are folks like you who prefer to believe in false prophets rather than hard realities.

          • Fred says:

Faulkner…you didnt read my post very well, I am the smart money, and I have left.

Bermudas social ills are too deep to be reversed just by blaming Brown, you should know that if you have grown up in Bermuda.

So many believe that Browns departure will be the magic bullet to Bermudas problems…you are soooo wrong.

  13. faulkner.stickel says:

    Good for you.

  14. Sal says:

the PLP are driving Bermuda’s economy, at full power, into the ground.
Ewart Brown, now a multi millionaire, leaves Bermuda in shambles, billions in debt,in the worst state of it’s 400 year history.
