Four Days After Igor: 330 Without Power

September 24, 2010

For days after Hurricane Igor left our shores, BELCO reports that as of 6:30 am this morning [Sept 24], approximately 330 customers remained without power, which is half the number at last report yesterday. The distribution of those outages is 140 in the central areas, 140 in the east, and 50 in the western parishes. BELCO continues to make repairs and the work areas planned for today are:

  • Pearmans Hill
  • North Shore Hamilton Parish
  • Penno’s Drive
  • Loyal Hill Pass
  • Watlington Road East
  • Jennings Road
  • Bostock Hill
  • Chapel of Ease
  • Tee Street
  • DeSilva Close
  • Wellington Back Road
  • Hermitage Road

Two crews continue to work Island-wide on the easiest jobs. Bermuda Telephone Company (BTC) and Cablevision have each loaned BELCO a bucket truck and driver for these jobs.

BELCO advises that each remaining job each may require considerable work to restore power to a small number of customers. Also, as customers are brought on, those who have power may lose it briefly, during switching to energize lines. The company says they understand that this is difficult for customers who remain without power, and they thank them for their patience, as crews work Island-wide.

Update 10pm: As of 9:00 PM, 74 customers remain without power. Work continues tonight, and crews will resume work again in the morning, focusing on single-customer calls. The distribution of these outages is 46 in the central areas, 22 in the east, and 6 in the western parishes Two multi-customer jobs remain to be completed tomorrow at Sunny Lane, St. Georges, and Berry Hill, with BELCO saying each requires considerable work.

    Thanks BELCO workers!

Just got mine back last night! Very happy after almost a week without it.

Bad news is… 2 of my tv’s and a dvd player are fried from when it came back on :(

We are one of the remaining 74 still without power. Incredibly frustrating when all of our neighbours houses are lit up like Christmas trees. I know it is a difficult situation for Belco but I do feel that in this day and age having to suffer lack of power for over a week is a bit much.
