Search Ongoing After Rattlesnake Sighting
The government said that “search efforts remain active following the reported sighting of an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake” and they are ”exploring additional measures, including external expertise and other capture methods to strengthen ongoing search efforts.”
A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works and Environment wishes to advise the public that search efforts remain active following the reported sighting of an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. Although the snake has not yet been located, trained responders continue their search and remain ready to respond to any credible information received. The Government is also exploring additional measures, including external expertise and other capture methods to strengthen ongoing search efforts.”
Jache Adams, Minister of Public Works and Environment, said, “The Government remains fully committed to locating and safely removing this animal. Trained personnel continue to lead this effort, and we are exploring all available options to strengthen our search and capture capabilities. We ask the public to remain vigilant, follow official guidance, and report any credible sightings immediately. We urge members of the public not to create, share or rely on fabricated videos, images or narratives as it can undermine public confidence and hinder response efforts.”
The spokesperson said, “The Ministry is aware of fake social media posts, including AI-generated videos and images circulating on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok falsely claiming the snake has been captured or located. These posts are not authentic, and the snake has not been found. Such misinformation can create confusion and distract from legitimate public safety efforts. Members of the public are encouraged to rely on verified information from official Government sources.
“Members of the public are encouraged to follow official Government social media channels and visit www.gov.bm for verified updates. The Government will continue to provide factual information as it becomes available.
“Anyone who observes the snake is urged to maintain a safe distance and immediately report the sighting by calling 911. If safe to do so, keep the snake in sight until authorities arrive. Never attempt to capture, corner, or harm the animal.”
The snake was initially reported to have been seen in the area of Gibbs Hill Road, Southampton, on 26 June 2026.

They are American too! Do not deport the snake. His only green card would be the money it takes to remove him. Our tax dollars deserve better!
It has absolutely nothing to do with the United States.
???????????????????????????????? GET RID OF IT.ITS HARMFUL AND ONLY A DEADLY SNAKE WHO WANTS TO DIE FOR IT?
How about research, that snake eats the mice that infest your home… that’s a good thing, Karen…
until some kid gets bit playing in their back yard
These responders for the snake are the same who think ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION is also swell & dandy at American taxpayer expense!!!
This isn’t even in America. This is Bermuda. Please do some research before making ignorant comments.
Why would we want to introduce a non indigenous, dangerous, invasive species onto our small island?
Except we don’t have snakes in Bermuda, Chad.
Why do you think it is a “DEADLY SNAKE”?
Reading comprehension.
Where did you read that this particular snake is deadly?
Encyclopedia, National Geographic, multiple online sources. The can cause fatality. That’s death, meaning it’s deadly, mate.
*they
National Geographic says this: Diamondback venom is a potent hemotoxin that kills red blood cells and causes tissue damage. Bites are extremely painful and can be fatal to humans. However, antivenin is widely available throughout the snake’s range, and bites rarely result in death.

Venom and Danger
The species is considered the most dangerous venomous snake in North America due to its size and venom potency. Its venom is hemotoxic, destroying red blood cells and causing tissue damage. While bites can be fatal, human deaths are rare because antivenom is widely available. Smithsonian Institution
Even with antivenom now available in Bermuda, a small child would not do as well as an adult being bitten. More so given the time between the bite and when the antivenom is administered.
Let’s not forget about pets – cats and dogs.
I have been under the impression for decades that the Mojave Rattlesnake the most toxic snake in North America
What does that have to do with what you’ve been commenting? You asked what proof there was that the snake was “deadly”. You sited a source yourself. Weird.
We have gone from “DEADLY SNAKE” to “bites rarely result in death.”
That was my point.
“And can be fatal to humans.” Fatal means deadly. I’m not sure what you’re not getting. We live in Bermuda. Antivenom is not readily available as we do not have snakes in Bermuda. It had been here for almost a week before we were able to even get a small amount of antivenom sent to us. So again, with bites being potentially fatal, how does that not mean deadly? I’m super confused by your logic.
An Eastern Diamondback although not as stout as the western variant, can still most definitely kill you and even if you survive, it’s going to be a few weeks of hell and an astronomical hospital bill
Where has it been seen? Location?
It was sighted in Bermuda.
In Southampton.
Seriously??? It’s a snake leave it be. Don’t bother i, it will go away.
Eastern Diamondbacks are not native to Bermuda, so this snake was brought over and released somehow.
No snake is “native to Bermuda”.
Snakes are wonderful creatures that survive through camo, escape, warning and lastly in most cases bite.We are the big problem on this globe, not snakes!
leave it alone? this is not a damn racoon. Where is it going to go away. This is a deadly poisonous snake, an ambush predator. What you think will happen when a kid playing in their back yard gets bit or somebody walking the trails with their small dog.
“This is a deadly poisonous snake”
What is your basis for that statement?
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! YA SKERRRRRRED INNA???
You’re quite right. And that doesn’t even take into account that it might be a female ready to give birth.
The amount of stupid around here is legendary.
Where is it going to go? We live on an island. Make it make sense.
We live on an island. Where is it going to go? Make it make sense.
Wow, you would think it was the plague or something. Come to Texas to Sweetwater.@ Rattlesnake round up and see what it’s all about. We can send you a couple thousand more if you like you can’t pet them but they’ll get rid of your rodent problem.
You don’t get it. They are not indigenous to Bermuda. Why would we all of a sudden want a dangerous, non indigenous, invasive animal suddenly on our small island? Where is it going to go?
I live in Nevada we’ve got the rattlesnakes all over the desert. Just leave it alone. If you don’t bother it. It won’t bother you.
well this is Bermuda, there is no space for such an animal to be in close proximity of kids playing. Leaving it alone is not the answer for an animal that can bread without a mating.
YOU CAN’T EVEN SPELL BREED RIGHT!! SKERRRRRRED AND DOPEY!!
Snakes were created before humans.
They said it was in the Southampton I would say New York
Bermuda. This is in Bermuda. Why are so many Americans commenting?
Americans are commenting because this is popping up on American websites as though it is local news, but it is not immediately apparent in the article or on the website that the location is Bermuda. I had to come to the comments to find out which regional Southampton it was referring to.
Where was it seen? I can’t believe it is causing such a ruckus. I’d see Timber Rattlers and Dimond backs soaking up the sun while fishing in NY often enough to know to be mindful but NEWS WORTHY????
This isn’t the United States. This is Bermuda. We do not have snakes on the island. There are many places called Southampton all over the world, not just America.
This is Bermuda, not the United States. We don’t have snakes. They are a non indigenous, dangerous, invasive species. What are we supposed to do with it? Where is it going to go? How will we contain any offspring that may produce?
If this snake is female and she delivers her young. Bermuda will be infested with these deadly creatures.
Why don’t you bring in experts from the USA to take over and find this dangerous creature?
Snake could have entered the country inside numerous imported items. Most likely some idiot illegally obtained the snake as a pet and dumped it once the snake became a burden to care for.
Idiots have smuggled snakes in before but they were non venomous .
It would take a supremely ignorant person to try and bring one of these in , not that there’s any shortage of supremely stupid people around here .
This one undoubtedly came in in a container of goods , most likely construction goods based on its proximity to a large construction project currently underway on Gibb’s Hill Road and the Southampton Princess a quarter of a mile away.
This looks more like a western not an Eastern Diamondbacks as the Eastern Diamondbacks are the largest of the north American rattlesnakes and can be quite vibrant in coloration.
Because it is an Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake you idjit. Stop with your existential claptrap and understand it’s a venomous snake with huge venom glands. Enough said.
