Bermuda to Host Airport Conference this Weekend

More than 400 people will arrive on Bermuda’s shores this weekend for the 20th Airports Council International (ACI) World/Latin America Caribbean Annual General Assembly – a trade show and conference on all things airport related.

From October 29th to November 3rd many of the world’s most senior airport and aviation executives will address some of the critical issues facing the global industry right here in Bermuda.

The theme of this year’s gathering is “Airports on the Global Stage: Charting the Course”.

This year’s topics will include:

  • Airport – Airline relationships: No free ride
  • Disaster Management: Before, during and after
  • Environment: Noise, NOx and carbon – Pushing the agenda
  • Safety: Playing it safe
  • Facilitation: Balancing best intentions with common sense

International guests of the conference will stay at the Fairmont Southampton Resort and can enjoy organized activities on November 1 such as fishing, sailing and golfing tournaments; an early morning run along South Shore; and East and West End island tours by local guides.

The Conference will be officially opened by His Excellency the Governor Sir Richard Gozney. Speakers will include Former US Transportation Chief in the Clinton administration Rodney Slater and Chairman of ACI World Max Moore-Wilton. The key note address prior to the first session on Tuesday November 2 will be given by Michael Rogers Futurist for the New York Times.

The opening ceremonies for this ACI event take place on November 1 in the Mid Ocean Amphitheatre of the Fairmont Southampton Resort at 6:30pm. Media are invited to attend.

The Airports Council International (ACI), created in 1991, is the international association of the world’s airports. As a non-profit organization, ACI’s purpose is to foster the cooperation among its member airports and other partners in world aviation. This includes governmental, airline and aircraft manufacturing organizations.

ACI has 575 members operating over 1630 airports in 179 countries and territories. In 2008, ACI members handled 4.9 billion passengers, 86 million metric tons of cargo and 77 million aircraft movement. The ACI World Annual General Assembly is the biggest global meeting of the ACI World Airport members.

The event is scheduled around official and regional ACI board meetings and committees. This year it is combined with the Latin America Caribbean Annual General Assembly. This is the twentieth anniversary for ACI. It is the biggest and most influential airport event of the calendar, allowing unparalleled access to the global community of ACI Airport decision makers.
