Yesterday [Oct 26] Minister of Works and Engineering Derrick Burgess toured the new Government building on Court Street. The building – which will house the Police station, courts and offices – takes up an entire block from Victoria Street to Court Street, and will be approximately 130,000 square feet. In November 2009 in the House of Assembly, Minister Burgess said “The Hamilton Police Station and five new Magistrates’ Courts, along with ancillary support offices, will be housed in the larger North Building. Additionally, the Ministry of Energy, Telecommunications and E-Commerce Headquarters, the Ministry of the Environment and Sports Headquarters and the Department of Youth, Sports and Recreation will be housed on the sixth floor of the North Building.”

“The Department of Court Services and other Court/Police-related functions will be assigned to the first three floors of the South Building. Additionally, the Ministry of Culture and Social Rehabilitation Headquarters and the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs will be housed on the fourth floor of the South Building.”

Since making that statement, plans have been modified to accommodate an extra Family Court in the new facility.

Cost overuns, unemployment, Ughuirs, BELCO has to run a ‘lacktric’ plug too it, awaiting shipment of Blackrum to pour on roof, and lease of Helicopter for dropping another bomb on the tacx payers.

Ps.A consultant has to be brought in to oversee final walk through and they figure out if anyone has a meal chit book for KFC……

So they started a year prior to Sir John’s new building on Front Street (which is of comparable size – albeit with much nicer finishing work) and will likely not be finished until a year after his completion?

  7. Graeme Outerbridge says:

Well when you change the buildings function away from the Police for fancy offices for elected Ministers what do you expect?^^
