Donald Scott Appointed as Cabinet Secretary

DONALD SCOTT bermuda Former financial secretary Donald Scott has been appointed Cabinet Secretary, Governor Sir Richard Gozney said in a statement this morning [Nov 12].

A graduate of Dalhousie University, focusing on economics and sociology, Mr. Scott has over decades of experience as a senior manager and executive in the Civil Service. He has held positions of Chief Statistician, Assistant Financial Secretary (Economics & Finance), Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Services and Financial Secretary. He has served on a number of high level review committees including the Consumer Protection Task Force, the Housing Task Force and the Health Care Review Task Force.

The post was previously held by Major Marc Telemaque, who according to the statement is expected to be transferred to another very senior post in Government shortly. In September 2010, Major Telemaque assumed the role of Acting Head of the Civil Service, following the retirement of Major Kenneth Dill.

The statement said: “The Governor announced today, Friday November 12, that Mr Donald Scott is to replace Major Marc Telemaque LVO JP as Secretary to the Cabinet in accordance with a recommendation of the Premier and following the submission to the Premier by the Public Service Commission of a list of public officers qualified for the appointment.

“Major Marc Telemaque LVO JP, who during four years as Cabinet Secretary has been praised for his ability, assiduousness, energy and discipline, is expected to be transferred to another very senior post in Government shortly.”
