Out of Prison 1 Month: Straight Back In

December 4, 2010

A 49-year-old man was sentenced to three years in prison only a month after being released from his last prison stint. Brian Carlton Rogers, who has a string of convictions going back to 1971, received the sentence for breaking into a Pembroke Church.

On December 2nd in Magistrates Court, Mr Rogers was sentenced to three years imprisonment by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner relating to the burglary that occurred during the early morning hours of October 11th 2010 at the West Pembroke Pentecostal Church.

Around 4:10am on October 11, 2010 the Police arrested Mr Rogers right after he broke into the Church and stole a safe. He attempted to run away, however was apprehended by the Police and the safe was recovered.

The Magistrate said Mr. Rogers had a “prolific record of criminal convictions” and pointed out he committed the offence at the Pembroke church following his release from prison only a month earlier.

Acting Detective Inspector Colin King who was part of the investigative team for the case said Thursday’s conviction was the result of Police officers quickly responding to the reported burglary and locating Mr. Rogers nearby, with the stolen safe in his possession. “He was subsequently placed before the court where the consequences of his actions resulted in a three year prison sentence.”

Chop the hand off. You really think jail helps? When will we learn?

Jail is a joke! The same people every time.

Prison, in its present form, clearly is not a deterrent to this man, & many others. It is long past time to make it a deterrent. Forced labour doing unpleasant jobs comes to mind. Sorting recyclables comes to mind. Picking up trash out of the bushes is another.

As long as these pencil necked dopes of academia think that jail time is for rehabbing, jail will never work. When I was growing up, jail was for punishment and not rehab. As someone before me mentioned have them busting rocks, have them work their tails off. When worked construction in Bermuda, I worked with an ex convict and he told me that he did not like to work so he wanted to go back in. You know what he did? He broke into an old woman’s house, lay in bed with her, he did not assault her in any way. The police picked him up and he went back in. Jail life should be unbearable and miserable. I do think that that may be a little more effective. A little tough love.

i agree our jail is nothing but a hotel for these guys, most of them ,like brian have spent their lives in there.he knows no other way.I thought when they were let out they found them a job and a place to stay ,like they do for the women,or they don’t come out, what is there for him to do but go back to his old ways? Gov’t said they was gonna get the prisoners to work on the outside, but that hasn’t happened .Col Lamb had a article in the paper that jail was no picnic then why are they all so desperate to go back ,it must be nice up there!
