Hmmmmm 60,000 plus people, 50,000 plus motor vehicles, accidents are bound to happen. Where are the road safety council and CADA folks funny they have not jumped on this yet. Oh well they have not recovered form their new years wine drinking as yet. Slow down ppl, open your eyes and ears. Great job again Bernews

    Too many 4x4s.

  3. Arthur - Atlanta says:

What a place for Government to put that wall…right in front of that car.
    Shame! Shame! :-)

  4. D Minors - Road Safety Officer says:

@ Winnie – - the Bermuda Road Safety Council (BRSC) does not simply comment on collisions and accidents without receiving information from the BPS, as well as other agencies involved. It is fair to say that yes – with traffic, there comes the risk of collisions and injuries. It is the stance of the BRSC that majority of the collisions in Bermuda are preventable – they can be prevented with defensive driving techniques, safe following distance observance, and as you said – “slowing down and keeping their eyes and ears open.” Sound advice and following the rules of the road will assist us, the BPS, CADA and you the motoring public from becoming a statistic.

  5. For Real says:

There are too many big vehicles and too few people who know how to drive them, Let alone keep them on the correct side of the road! There should be a special class of driver’s license to drive one of those SUVs’, just as there is to drive a truck.

    • Sheriff says:

I agree… Harbour Road is full of non-drivers that CANNOT /REFUSE to stay on their side of the road in their SUV’s… STAY ON YOUR SIDE PEEPS !!

  6. Call as it is says:

Well done Bermudians, keep smashing up your cars.that’s 4 less on the roads!

making Bermuda roads a safer place is the way to go

  7. Terry says:

BRSC, CADA, BPS,et al have nothing to do with driving habits and or accidents.

They serve very well, educate, inform and relate dangerous habits, spots and information about the fore.

SUV’s and large cars have nothing to do with it. Look at the size of trucks/tractor trailers et al.

It’s all about courtesey, rules of the road.

Not being there I can assume that someone waved someone out ( an old Bermudian tradition) or something similar that road users take for granted.

Oh well…..looks like another one has been taken too the “Cleaners”.

Take to many things for granted and you end up just being another ‘wall-sitter’.

A great third lane day too hall……………..

  8. Damn this Traffic Jam says:

Big cars should be phased out in Bermuda. Too many big cars – it was the worst idea EVER. Everyone should be forced to have smaller cars just like we used to. Or no cars at all!

Those Smart cars – now they are nice. Mini Coopers too! Chevy Spark – very cool.

    CRV – NO!!!

  9. Terry says:

And just before I retire in fron of the fire, this photo of the vehicle on the wall gives new meaning to ‘wall-sitters’ and ‘hustle truck’……………..

  11. An Opinion says:

    Good Day Bernews,

I must begin by saying that I find your website to be a great source of information. With this in mind, your team of reporters are to be commended. That said however, I have become increasingly disturbed by the amount of accidents reported and accompanying images. It is my humble opinion that the reporting of a vehicle accident at any given location, whereby the cars involved have received varying degrees of damage and/or those individuals involved have no serious threat to their life, does not warrant coverage. In my personal opinion, were my car to be riddled with damage in an accident the last thing I would want to see plastered over the internet for the viewing public is pictures of my vehicle (I do note that license plates are blurred out). Such photos would do nothing to help me feel better about the cost of my insurance premiums increasing, the costs of repair and so forth. Such incidents happen the world over all the time but to my knowlegde it is only in Bermuda that they are given such media attention. The point I am making is that such stories and photos have a minimal impact on the interests of the wider domain and as such are not newsworthy.

That aside, I genuinely appreciate the work Bernews are doing.

    • bernews says:

Thanks for your input…accidents may seem pronounced now, as there have been so many lately.

As far as newsworthy, to be honest, if we didn’t print everything people said isn’t newsworthy, we would barely have any content…and definitely couldn’t generate enough traffic to be sustainable.

Accidents, crime, environment, history, photo galleries, sports, entertainment etc – all generate complaints sent to us of not “being newsworthy.” About the only thing we don’t get complaints about is business and politics.

History is the worst, we just assume each history piece will end in en email complaint of it ‘not being news’…thing is, others really like them and ask us to do more. Its a catch-22 for us.

Despite our best efforts we can’t even hope to be able appeal to specific tastes, all we can do is try to offer a wide variety, and hope there is something amongst the content that appeals to some.

      Patricia

      Opinions are like a##holes…
we all have one and we all love to slow down and gawp at accidents!!
      (I bet you do too!).

  12. ??? Confused ??? says:

I’m not quite sure how someone who has a “humble opinion that the reporting of a vehicle accident…. does not warrant coverage” ends up on a story post of just that.
Ok, I could understand an e-mail being sent or an FB page post but it seems “An Opinion” came here just like the rest of us…. to SEE the accident post. I could be wrong but if the slowing traffic at EVERY smash up accident (with or without injury) is any sign, we LOVE to poke at the scene of an accident. Doing it online makes it so much easier to, hehe.
I guess if everyone thought that “such stories and photos have a minimal impact on the interests of the wider domain and as such are not newsworthy”, there wouldn’t be such a high success of overseas news and “reality” shows and DVDs covering smash ups (with or without injury), chases and such.

  13. Triangle Drifter says:

I happened by this one shortly after this crash occured. Hilarious! In a place where most of us drive at under 50k (being honest), how in the world did this thing get up on the wall like that???

Roadrage? Speed? Lack of courtesy? Inattention (cellphone)? A combination of all three?

Oh…I know… both cars just WENT out of control. No driver fault at all.

    • Lissa says:

It’s possible to get on the wall like tht because its a large vehicle with very large tires (moutain terrain) lol. smaller cars would have simply hit the wall. The drivers of the jeep are very luck, it could have been far worse.

  14. HOW PAYS FOR ALL THE DAMAGE WALLS WE HAVE LOTS OF WALLS THAT ARE NOT FIX YET ALL OVER THE ISLAND WAKE UP THE PLP GOVERMENT AND STOP ALL THE MADNESS???
