Photos: Police Respond to Arrival of Carefree IV

January 22, 2011

Yesterday morning [Jan 21] the long overdue 31-foot Carefree IV sailboat arrived in Bermuda after departing the Dominican Republic over seven weeks ago. Bermudians Carlos Rogers, 41, and Kwesi Hollis, 36, had been due to arrive in Bermuda before Christmas, and searches had been carried out for the missing vessel.

Two Police boats were seen heading out from St George’s early in the morning, both filled with Police officers dressed in all black, with many appearing to be armed. A short while later, the Carefree IV sailboat, which had been boarded by the Police, was seen coming into St George’s with a Police boat escort.

The two man crew were brought ashore on another Police boat and immediately taken into Police custody. The boat was searched, then removed from the water and taken to Southside. More information, and videos, of the arrival of the Carefree IV is here.

Earlier in the morning, the Marine Police had intercepted a small boat in the Penhurst Park, North Shore area – seizing what they termed a “significant quantity of suspected drugs.” A total of five persons have been arrested between the two marine interceptions.
