Boat Diverts: Crew Member With Appendicitis

federal yukon boatYesterday [Mar.16] a ship diverted to Bermuda, after their 26 year old third officer, an Indian national, required medical attention as he was suffering from what was suspected to be appendicitis. Late last night the crew member was transferred to a pilot vessel, and into an awaiting ambulance.

A spokesperson said, “Bermuda Radio received a satellite telephone call from the Master of the 26,659 gross ton bulk carrier M/V Federal Yukon in position approximately 100 nautical miles south of Bermuda advising that their 26 year old third officer, an Indian national was suffering from an suspected appendicitis and required medical attention.”

“The vessel diverted towards Bermuda and at 11:03 pm rendezvoused with the pilot vessel St.George in position 3.1 nautical miles east of St.David’s Lighthouse. An awaiting ambulance met the pilot vessel at Ordnance Island for transport to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.”

“At 11:55 pm M/V Federal Yukon continued on her voyage from St.Petersburg, Russia to the Mississippi River, USA.”
