Noting that these recruits have recently been trained to the Emergency Medical Technician (Intermediate), the Minister said, “I would like to congratulate these young men on the effort and success they’ve realized thus far on the course. They will be well trained and well equipped for the multi-faceted role of firefighter in Bermuda today.”

The Minister also toured the 911 call centre and discussed the possibility of streamlining its operation through co-location of dispatching which would better co-ordinate call-outs and service to the public. In a wide ranging discussion on issues such as training, airport firefighter capacity and recruitment, the Minister met with the senior command of the Service.

“With almost 250 years’ experience the long-stay nucleus of these Bermudian officers is a testament to the strength of the organization,” Mr. Perinchief added.
