Upcoming U/14 Bermuda Rugby Tour Of Ontario
Bermuda’s Under/14 National Rugby Team will embark on a tour of Ontario on June 2nd- June 5th and will be hosted by Trinity College School [TCS] in Port Hope Ontario. The school kindly hosted the U16 team earlier this year.
Twenty-four young rugby players from seven different schools across the island have been training hard three days a week with a fitness session at the Arboretum and two technical sessions at Somersfield Academy under the watchful eye of head coach Patrick Topley and assistant coaches Andrew Cook, David Crofts, Ian Maule, Mark Pomeroy and Garth Lorimer-Turner. The group has made significant strides in fitness and technical capabilities and has bonded very well as a team in recent weeks.
One of the organizers said, “The tour and the program is about much more than winning a rugby match – it’s about bringing kids from different family backgrounds, different schools, different economic backgrounds together in a situation where they would not otherwise find themselves and working together with people with whom they perhaps would not interact with in their normal day-to-day lives. We have students from 7 public and private schools represented on the tour and friendships made in rugby are long-lasting and it starts from an early age.”
The itinerary includes two 70 minute matches against TCS and Peterborough Pagans RFC, morning chapel at the school, tour of the TCS campus, a visit to downtown Toronto including the Science centre and IMAX theatre and the players are kindly hosted by TCS families.
