Digicel Sponsors Visit By Taylor & Sarwan

June 22, 2011

Digicel Bermuda announced its sponsorship of the Digicel Youth Cricket Summer Clinic, organized by the Bermuda Cricket Board [BCB], which will feature two top international cricketers – Jerome Taylor and Ramnaresh Sarwan.

The Digicel Youth Cricket Summer Clinic gives enthusiastic young cricketers the opportunity to learn and improve upon the basics of bowling, catching and batting, with an emphasis on participation, team spirit and fun. At the end of each week, the participants will play each other in a game at a convenient location.

The program will be monitored by National Coach David Moore and run by Level I and Level II coaches. Digicel will provide two international players from the West Indies cricket team to assist with coaching on July 27, which is the Digicel Festival Day.

Jerome Taylor, who is considered one of the fastest bowlers in the world, and Ramnaresh Sarwan, who is a vastly experienced batsman who still averages over 40 in Test cricket after making his debut for West Indies at the age of 19, will both bring their international knowledge in their specialized areas to the clinic.

Mr. Taylor and Mr. Sarwan look forward to working with the local coaching staff to share their cricket insight and techniques with the future cricketers of Bermuda.

Stated Digicel Bermuda CEO, Wayne Caines, “Digicel is always delighted to provide assistance to community events, especially those directed towards the youth.”

“Cricket is such an integral part of Bermudian culture and we are pleased to sponsor the Digicel Youth Cricket Summer Clinic and also to be the official mobile communications provider for the Bermuda Cricket Board. We are particularly excited to bring in two renowned West Indies cricket players to assist with coaching Bermuda’s youth.”

Reginald Pearman, President of the BCB noted, “We are very excited to be able to partner with Digicel to provide an even more rewarding and engaging experience for youth cricketers in Bermuda. The youth clinics have been a long-standing popular program for over 20 years and provide a safe and fun opportunity for young people to learn the game.”

“Digicel has a strong link with cricket in the region and we are very pleased that we are able to leverage that to make some exciting opportunities this summer. The Digicel Festival Day on July 27 promises to be a truly memorable day.”

The Digicel Youth Cricket Summer Clinic is open to children aged 7 – 13 and will be held from July 4th through to August 5th from 9 am to 3 pm daily. The cost is $100 per week. Digicel and the Bermuda Cricket Board encourage interested parents to register their children at the Bermuda Cricket Board or online at www.cricket.bm.
