Murder Trial: Expert & Victim’s Father Testify
A forensic pathologist and the father of the murder victim testified today [June 17] during the murder trial of the two brothers who stand accused.
The murder trial of Ronniko Burchall, 22, and his half brother Leroy Symons, 20, began yesterday [June 16] in the Supreme Court.
Both men are accused of being involved in the murder of Shane Minors, who was found dead in the entrance of his home in South Terrace, Friswell’s Hill, Pembroke on December 17, 2009.
Mr Burchall [below left] is alleged to be the actual shooter, while Mr Symons [below right] is alleged to have provided assistance.
The jury has already heard that Mr Minors was not part of a gang, however his brother Shaki Minors was said to be affiliated with 42nd, and it is believed that is why he was targeted. It is alleged that the shooting of Mr Minors was in a retaliation from Parkside for the murder of 22-year-old Gary ‘Fingas’ Cann, which occurred only two days prior.
Today the murder victim’s father took the stand, and described the events of the night. He explained that his son lived in the apartment below the main house. He said that at approximately 1:15am that night, he was woken by noises, got up and looked out of his windows, however he did not see anything out of the ordinary so went back to sleep.
He said that later that morning someone knocked on his door and told him something was wrong with his son Shane. He went to check, and found his son laying on the ground with his head on the steps.
He leaned down to check on his son and could not get a response, so called 911 and requested both the Police and an ambulance. The Police arrived first, and soon told him that his son had been shot, and was dead.
Also testifying today was forensic pathologist Christopher Milroy, who said that Mr Minors was shot twice, and died within minutes of the shooting.
Both men deny the charges, and the trial continues…
