Minister Opens Airworthiness Conference

September 27, 2011

tlisterYesterday [Sept.26] Minister of Transport Terry Lister opened the Designated Airworthiness Inspector (DAI) Annual Conference being held this year in Bermuda from 26th – 30th September.

Hosted by the Bermuda Department of Civil Aviation [BDCA], there are 37 attendees at the conference which include facilitators and instructors, as well as local Airworthiness staff and overseas inspectors from several countries including Argentina, Canada, France, New Zealand, Russia, Switzerland, the UK and the US.

The International Civil Aviation Organisation requires that the Overseas Territories such as Bermuda maintain and document the qualifications, technical competence, and experience of all Aerospace contractors, and Aviation Inspectors, such as DAI’s.

Specifically, this must include the establishment of minimum knowledge and experience requirements for technical personnel performing safety oversight function, and the provision of appropriate training to maintain and enhance their competence at the desired level.

Minister Lister said: “This annual conference has proven immensely valuable for both training and the exchange of experiences from around the world. Not only for the DAI’s, but perhaps the greatest benefit is the transfer of knowledge provided to the Bermudian Inspector Staff by such a strong professional contingent of International Inspectors.”

“As many of our International DAI’s are only able to meet their peers during the annual conference, there is always a wealth of knowledge and shared vision exchanged between the DAI group and the BDCA Inspector Staff.”
