October 11, 2011

Skipper Blake Burgess of Bermuda and his crew placed 3rd this weekend at the Storm Trysail Regatta in the J-44 Class.

Burgess and the Maine Maritime Offshore Sailing Team headed down to Larchmont, New York this past weekend to compete in the Storm Trysail Regatta. Arriving late on Thursday night, the team spent majority of the day on Friday practicing on their J-44 “Gold Digger”, owned by Jim Bishop.

On Saturday, the team headed out early to get used to the very light wind. Burgess and his team started off the regatta with a 1st place in the first race and two 4th-place finishes to end the day. Trailing the two boats tied in first by 1 point, MMA was ready for another to clench the title.

Sunday brought light wind for the MMA sailors. On the first race, MMA was in 1st place heading downwind when the wind completely dropped out. 20 yards before the finish, the RC called off all the races, which ended the regatta.
