Blustery Weather Could Continue Into Monday

November 5, 2011

The Bermuda Weather Service [BWS] is warning that this weekend’s blustery conditions could last until Monday.

Showery rain, isolated thunderstorms and gales arrived this evening and there have been reports of isolated power outages throughout Bermuda.

“A large area of showery rain and isolated thunderstorms will advance over the region out ahead of deep low pressure to the west this evening,” said a BWS advisory issued this evening [Nov.5]. “Strong northeast winds reach gale force during the evening. A few showers with strong to gale force persist Sunday and even Monday as low pressure stalls to the southwest. The low drifts west during the week but strong winds with a few daily showers continue.”

For tonight the BWS is predicting cloudy periods of showery rain with a risk of thunder, easing late in the evening. East-northeasterly winds will be strong to gale force, with gusts to storm force possible.

Tomorrow [Nov. 6] a few showers are likely, especially earlier in the day. Northeasterly winds will continue, strong to gale force, with higher gusts possible in and around showers. They will veer east-northeasterly during the afternoon, strong to gale force after noon.

On Monday [Nov. 7] Bermuda can expect some sunny breaks along with a few showers, mainly later in the day. Winds are expected to be easterly, strong to gale force.
