Author and educator Colwyn Burchall, Jr. will be signing copies of his highly-acclaimed third book, Dame Lois: The People’s Advocate, this comong Saturday [Feb.18] at the Book Mart from 11a.m. to 2p.m.

Dame Lois [1927-2007] was Bermuda’s first female lawyer and Attorney General and the first woman to head an Opposition Party in the British Commonwealth.

Dame Lois addressing the People’s Parliament at Victoria Park:

Since its release in December 2011, the book has been very warmly received and universally praised as a concise and entertaining chronicle of the life of the Dame and the social forces that shaped and inspired her.

Mr. Burchall has been pleasantly surprised by the response, particularly amongst adult readers. He states, “Many of them reported that they read the entire book in one sitting…they found it too engrossing to put down!”

Dame Lois in her youth:

Dame Lois: The People’s Advocate” is the third book in Mr. Burchall’s Icons Series and follows the previous volumes on Look For Me In The Whirldwind: A Story Of Marcus Garvey” and “Freedom’s Flames: Slavery In Bermuda And The True Story Of Sally Bassett.”

Already hard at work on his next book, Mr. Burchall is currently interviewing friends, relatives and associates of the late Dr. Pauulu Kamarakafego [Roosevelt Brown]. The tentative release date for this as-yet untitled book is December 2012.
