Age Concern To Host Community Discussion

Age Concern Bermuda will host the second of three community discussions focusing on the issues facing seniors.

Age Concern Executive Director, Mrs. Claudette Fleming who stated, “We held our first meeting in February at Sandys Secondary Middle School. We are looking forward to an equal, if not greater, number of attendees for the second seniors’ community discussion meeting.

The meeting will be held on Saturday, March 24 starting at 10:00am and ending at 12:30pm in the Dellwood Middle School assembly hall. Politicians from the three political parties have been invited to send announced candidates who are running in one of the three central constituencies during the next general election.

The objectives for the meeting are to:

• raise awareness amongst the candidates running in the next general election of the issues facing seniors; and
• create a platform for those candidates to participate in discussions directly with Bermuda’s seniors.

All members of the community are invited to attend and participate in this important dialogue opportunity, we particularly would like to see seniors from the central parishes, Paget, Pembroke and Devonshire, turn out in large numbers to ensure we hear their concerns as it pertains to what it means to be a senior living in Bermuda.

The political parties have indicated the following candidates will attend Saturday’s discussion:

From the Progressive Labour Party:

• Mr. Walter Roban, Pembroke East, Constituency #15
• Mr. Walton Brown,Pembroke Central, Constituency #17
• Mr. Vince Ingham, Pembroke West, Constituency #19

From the One Bermuda Alliance:

• Mrs. Jeanne Atherden, Pembroke West, Constituency #19
• Mr. Anthony Francis, Devonshire North Central, Constituency #13
• Mr. Scott Stewart, Pembroke East, Constituency #15

An invitation has also been extended and accepted by Mr. Khalid Wasi, a declared independent for Pembroke South East, Constituency #21.
