Car Still Stuck On North Shore A Month Later

May 31, 2012

[Updated] One month after a driver plunged his car through a fence and down an embankment the car remains stuck at the water’s edge.

At around 2:30am on April 29th a 60-year-old man crashed through a wooden fence and over an embankment, landing on the shoreline by the junction of North Shore and Palmetto Road in Pembroke. The driver was injured and had to be extricated from the extensively damaged vehicle by emergency personnel.

Update 7.30pm: The car has now been removed, with nothing more than some damaged rocks remaining in the area.

There have been quite a few other instances of drivers smashing their cars through walls/fences and landing close to the water or in other precarious positions [1] [2] [3] [4] [5], however the vehicles are usually removed within hours with the use of a crane or similar machinery.

Anyone who has had an accident will realise that you have to call the tow truck company yourself and pay for removal of the car, sometimes the officer at the scene will call, but you still have to pay as the owner. Nothing to do with the BPS or the government lol. Our government has done a lot of foolishness, but can’t blame them for everything lol.

Why should we move it – - don’t we have a dump for old automobiles, washing machines and other hazardous waste sitting on the shore out by the airport? Let’s just start another dump here with this car.

Anywhere else, civilised that is, would allow the owner a period of time to deal with it then littering fines would kick in. After that the local authority would remove it & bill the owner, along with the fines.

I would hope that some similar process is underway for this vehicle.
