June 7, 2012

Minister of Business Development and Tourism Wayne Furbert announced the launch of the National Tourism Plan which will be tabled in the House of Assembly tomorrow [June 8].

The National Tourism Plan for Bermuda has been developed during the past 5 months through collaboration between Tourism & Leisure Europraxis and local partners OBM International with the Tourism Board and Bermuda Department of Tourism.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Master Plan is the result of a consultative process with various stakeholders across the entire tourism sector. More than 175 stakeholders have participated in the validation of the Master Plan through stakeholder workshops and meetings.”

Minister Furbert said: “The Tourism Board has been working very hard on this Plan behind the scenes and we are now thrilled to be able to present it to the people of Bermuda.

“This plan promises to bring hope to a struggling sector of our economy as well as opportunity for employment and investment. We are confident the public will support this plan as we work together to reinvent Bermuda as the world’s premier travel destination.”

A town hall meeting for the public to hear about the plan will be held at the Berkeley Institute on Monday, June 11th, 2012 starting at 7 p.m.

Minister Furbert added: “The National Plan provides a new approach to the way in which tourism is developed in Bermuda. It is an ambitious and achievable plan, which requires collaboration and support across the private and public sector, and people of Bermuda working towards a common goal to benefit Bermuda.

“The Plan provides clear guidelines for implementation, including actions to be implemented in 2012 which may generate immediate successes. The Plan also provides actions for implementation over the medium and long term as well as strategic goals and how these goals will be achieved.

“I encourage the public to come out to the town hall meeting on Monday, June 11th to learn more about how we are going to ensure tourism is once again a solid and sustainable pillar of our economy.”
