Police Issue Motorcycle Theft Advisory

July 13, 2012

“Recently there has been an increase in motorcycles being taken without their owner’s consent from various locations throughout the island,” a police spokesperson said.

“Members of the public are reminded to ensure that before leaving their motorcycle or auxiliary cycle unattended, it is secured with a good quality motorcycle lock, in addition to the handlebar lock.

“When parking a motorcycle outside overnight, it should be appropriately secured and left in a well-lit and busy area if at all possible.

“Suspicious activity or individuals near parked motorcycles or other vehicles should be reported to the main police number 295-0011 at the earliest opportunity.”

  1. Triangle Drifter says:

Perhaps it would be useful for the police to issue the stats on which models of bikes are most frequently stolen. The moral is, ‘Don’t buy what the theives like’. I have followed that rule for many years. Never had a bike stolen. First question asked when entering a bike dealership, what do the thieves like that you sell?

Triangle Drifter, you seem to be very talented to say the least. You seem to be on top on your A game in every facet of life. In just about every article you part some words of wisdom for the rest of us who seek to sitting at the bottom of the hill trying to make it to the top.

On a serious note, Criminals don’t care what type of cycle you have. If someone is looking for parts, they will steal a similar cycle. If someone is looking for a cycle to get home, they will steal the first one they see. So if its not your V50, maybe its ya SYM or could it be ya VESPA

Maybe the criminals are not as stupid as some people make hem out to be.

  3. bike says:

Did they not have a department that investigated bikes being stolen? What happened to that department? What happened to police on bikes?

  4. Bda says:

They are thieves, they will get whatever is in front them.

There is nothing we can do about it, but secure our property.

They are usually the smartest, they know how to play very well.

  5. Too tired of it. says:

No doubt connected to school being out. It seems as though this is a Bermudian right of passage for way too many out of control children.
And it’s not only bikes they steal. Some have been stealing peoples dogs for a few years and setting up illegal pit bull puppy mills too.
The brand and make of bike stopped mattering many years ago. They’ll steal anything simply because they can , snd they’re out of control little thieves.

The police seem to no longer give a rats behind about bike theft and I make that observation based on personal experience. A shrug of the shoulder and a ‘so what’, we’ll act like we’ll look for it but you’re never going to see it again.Just go see your insurance company with the report and get a new one. Oh, no full coverage ? Guess you’re SOL then . Bye , don’t expect any follow up from us.

This problem has been costing our society millions for years and it’s way overdue to be stamped out once and for all

Just start flogging a few of the perps when they’re caught and make them buy the victim a new bike . Please !

  6. Kathy says:

If there is a market for stolen parts, then parts will get stolen. Perhaps the police should be investigating the bike dealerships to see if they are being supplied by underground stolen parts. Otherwise, they should investigate the shipping companies to see what is being exported. There is a huge global market out there for bike parts and the theives are then able to receive large amounts of money through PayPal, etc.!

It is time to investigate the source of where all these bikes and parts are going…not just investigate the theft of a bike.
