2012 Miss World Pageant Concludes, China Wins
Miss China Wenxia Yu won the 2012 Miss World Pageant today [Aug 18], defeating 115 other young ladies from around the world. The Miss World 1st runner-up was Wales, and the 2nd runner-up was Australia.
Miss Bermuda Rochelle Minors placed out of the top overall 15, however she did make the semi-finals of two of the individual events [talent and model], and was also announced as one of the finalists in the multi media award category.
All the contestants being introduced, Miss Bermuda comes in at the 45 sec mark:
It is not clear at this time where Miss Bermuda placed overall, with the placings below the top seven not yet available, however we will update as able.
Miss Minors was shown being introduced when the broadcast got underway, and later in the show her supporters got some brief airtime as when the camera panned to the audience a Bermuda flag was shown on TV.
StyleBermuda tweeted the screencap below showing the Bermuda flag in the audience saying “Bermudians always up in the mix.” The finals were held in Ordos, China.
Update Aug 19, 1.35pm: There still does not appear to be any form of final list of all 116 places available, so we are still unsure where Miss Bermuda placed, however will continue to try and find out.
Update Aug 20, 7.40am: The top 30 have been released, but 31-116 have not, so it is still unclear where Miss Bermuda placed overall.

My opinion is that she won based on being a Berkleyite (You’ll note Miss Teen is as well) and her international modeling experence in the uk I think. Bermuda has all ways valued international exp. above our own. Not taking anything away from Miss Bermuda but she was not in my top three but as I said on the other threads I would not have wanted to be a judge.

Really strange coverage…Ms Wales came from left field and had very little prior coverage…Ms Sudan spoke so well…Ms China made no effort to speak in English…all others did and it was clearly difficult for them but they tried their best. Rochelle…you represented so well and should be proud of your achievements…..with just 2 weeks to prepare…I would be still packing…Great job!!

clearly Miss China did not win she just got the title cause from what I saw she did NOT deserve to win, not saying she did not have some qualities but come on judges you did the world an injustice. Yes people will always have something to say about who wins, but this hands down is ridiculous!!!!! Such disrespect shown to the ladies who did participate and were much more deserving of the crown. On another note Miss Bermuda even though you did not place in the top 15 job well done Bermuda should be very proud.
I am so disgusted that Miss China won. It just smacks of political undertones. The two times Miss China has won Miss World, the contest was held, guess where? You guessed it-China!
When this young lady first won Miss China, the Chinese talked about how much intensive work they were going to have to put into her, including teaching her English (that worked out really well-not) because they felt she was just not pageant ready. However, she just happens to come out and leave the rest of the girls in the dust? WOW.

In a very credible pageant the American-owned Miss Universe, I haven’t seen in its half-a century existence that a Chinese outshone Latina, European & American beauties.. Even in Asia, Miss China is no match to the Philippines or Thailand or Japan, even Korea had a first runner-up finished in Miss U. China got its big boost as 4th runner up ONLY last year

Donald Trump owns one of these Pageants so they pick whoever may have the most commercial value..held in China…1.3 billion people…..at least Miss Bermuda had the trip of a lifetime…
Miss China was second favorite to win according to the bookmakers so it’s not a surprise. Miss Mexico was favourite and Miss Jamaica in the top 7 based on the odds. The odds on Bermuda said it all.
For those who said it was fixed, it most likely is, and the local pageant is unlikely to be any different. Rochelle certainly did her best under the circumstances, especially to be in the top 10 in the multi media award.
What should now be obvious is that the criteria to win is so different from the days when Gina won, Bermuda should stop wasting money sending a contestant. This year it was so bad even the Salvation Army had to help Rochelle. What a disagrace.
It seems that larger country’s are always on top if you look at the top 15. Smaller country’s IE: islands especially do not get any respect that’s also relevant in football etc. China winning maybe is an indication that China owns the world, the certainly own the U.S.A..LOL

Sorry, perhaps our article is not clear enough as this is the second comment to this effect, but she was not in the top 15. She looked great and did very well in three division of the contest, but was not in the top 15 overall…

Somebody tell me how do we get to Gonernment scholarships from Miss World pagent. Might I also say, the scholarship business has nothing to do with color nor achedemics; it might just be who you are and the circles you roll in. My child never got any money for school from anyone but her single parent. He/she maintained a 3.5 avg. in high school and has gone on to be the head of a Government office.
So there you have it. Black or White its who you know. If you are at the bottom of the rong I wish you luck.
