Big Brothers Big Sisters Receive $1,000 Grant
Bermuda CableVision today [Sept 20] announces that it has secured a $1,000 grant for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda (BBBS) from the Caribbean Cable and Telecommunications Association (CCTA).
This is the seventh consecutive year that Bermuda CableVision has nominated and successfully secured a CCTA award for the local mentoring charity.
The CCTA Community Charities Programme has been serving worthwhile organisations throughout the region for 19 years and to date has awarded $267,750 to good causes identified by its membership of cable operators.
The programme originally awarded only ten grants per year, but interest in the programme has grown substantially and this year the CCTA’s board of directors voted unanimously to award $1,000 grants to all 14 of the 2012 deserving nominees.
Edward Cherwinski, Chief Financial Officer at Bermuda CableVision, presented a cheque to Patrina O’Connor-Paynter, Fund Development/ Marketing Communications Director at BBBS Bermuda.
Mr. Cherwinkski said: “As financial pressures continue within our community, Bermuda CableVision is dedicated to supporting local charities any way we can. We nominated BBBS once more as the mentoring services it provides serve to equip the next generation with important life skills, so that they can make a positive contribution to our society in the future. We are grateful to the CCTA for its continued generosity.”
Ms. O’Connor-Paynter says: “We are greatly appreciative of the ongoing support from Bermuda CableVision and the CCTA. Demand for our services is higher than ever and, like every charity, we are working hard to meet them with reduced resources in these financially challenging times. The support we receive helps us continue to provide mentoring services to the youth of Bermuda.”
Formed in 1983, the CCTA represents cable and telecommunications providers throughout the Caribbean, and the programmers, software and hardware suppliers that support their operations.
