Man Admits Theft: Steakums, Gel, Chocolate

November 19, 2012

47-year-old Randolph Simons pleaded guilty this morning [Nov 19] to stealing Steakums, shower gel, toothpaste, and chocolate bars [valued at $41] from the Marketplace store in Sandys earlier this month.

A cashier had spotted Mr Simons putting items in his pocket. She called shop managers who accosted Mr Simons and searched him, finding the items on him. Police were called and Mr Simons was taken to Hamilton Police Station where he admitted taking the items.

Mr Simons told Magistrate Archie Warner: “I stand here today guilty. It’s time for me to get on. I’m trying to get Financial Assistance. I’m trying to get food vouchers.”

The Senior Magistrate noted that Mr Simons had a criminal record that filled over 20 pages and stretched back some 30 odd years. The Magistrate said: “In another jurisdiction he would have off both hands and feet by now.”

Mr Simons was granted $2,000 bail but with one Surety. He was directed to reappear on 19th December 2012 for sentencing. A Social Inquiry Report was ordered and the Magistrate also ordered that whilst on bail, Mr Simons was to stay away from all marketplace premises.

Until we know a person’s story we should NOT judge them.

    • Bermuda Girl says:

He has a rap sheet of TWENTY pages, going back THIRTY years. I think it is safe to say that he has had plenty of time to get food vouchers and financial assistance during that period!! My sympathy only extends so far; like for the first offense. After that, you have chosen a lifestyle and you are on your own.

  3. Uncle BOB says:

Like what a total waste of tax payers money…this dude will never stop…don’t know why they would give him bail and order a social inquiry report…we have a real daft juducial system!

  4. Highly Concerned2 says:

  6. Opressed says:

  11. maybe says:

He’s a career criminal. Been in trouble since he lived in boaz island and going to school. Maybe it’s just that this leopard doesn’t want to change his spots. There isn’t really a deterrent to his one man spree of criminality, so he just gets on with it. He’s had a lifetime of social inquiry reports and bail, so its beyond time for him to change his behaviour or he will have to just keep dancing to the beat of the magistrates drum.

  12. Truth Committee says:

“The senior magistrate noted that Mr. Simons had a criminal record that filled over 20 pages and stretched back some 30 odd years”

A criminal record that filled over 20 pages AND stretched back some 30 odd years… Mental note: that would mean that he’d have begun this ‘criminal career’ from a teen. AT WHAT POINT DOES THE POWERS THAT BE REHABILITATE????!!!! Perhaps then it would not have cost much of the taxpayers money

    • Red says:

That dude has had rehab opportunities time and time again….”You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink.” Ever heard of that expression? He has no excuse….That dude could have packed groceries for an hour or so and used his tips to purchase the items he stole, he knows better…Yet your statement is directed to the powers that be…FYI the dude in question has left jail with a fresh start several times over as well…money saved, roof over his head, and an honest job… you still think that it’s the powers that be whom are responsible for his actions huh…I beg to differ.
