Police Donate To STAR Lighthouse Charity

December 13, 2012

Once again this year, officers from the Bermuda Police Serious Crime Unit agreed to forego exchanging presents during the Christmas season. Instead they collected donations in order to provide necessities to the clients of the STAR Lighthouse charity.

Serious Crime Unit support staff member Ms. Monique Heyliger was instrumental in selecting the charity, which supports individuals living with HIV and AIDS.

The donations collected amongst the detectives and support staff in the unit totalled over $800, and provided the nine STAR Lighthouse residents with blankets, socks, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap and other essentials for everyday living.

Pastor Carolyn Armstrong, Director of STAR gratefully received the items from Superintendent James Howard, Acting Chief Inspector Calvin Smith, Ms. Heyliger and members of the Serious Crime Unit.

The officers and support staff expressed to Pastor Armstrong that the Serious Crime Unit thought it important to recognise the needs of others at this time of year. For more information on STAR Lighthouse charity or to donate, please contact 292-5941.
