[Updated with a few photos] The City of Hamilton today announced that the City Food Festival starts this morning at 8:00am outside of City Hall. Commuters on their way to work can stop at Nellie’s Walk and pick up a breakfast pastry and a beverage on their way to work.
According to event organizer, Mr. Thomas Lightbourne, the free breakfast is the start of the week of activities. Mr. Lightbourne stated, “The City of Hamilton is pleased to host the second annual food festival. There will be three nights of chef competitions taking place at the Bermuda Gas Showroom on Serpentine Road.
Chefs will compete for the title of Best Canapé for the City Food Festival. This is a black box competition. The chefs were given ingredients over the weekend to start preparing their gastronomical delights. They have to prepare three canapés– a hot, a cold and the third dish is their choice.
“There will be three nights of competitions. Tonight and Wednesday starting at 6:00pm will be the knock out rounds. Friday evening will feature the winning chef from each night. Friday night’s winner will be announced on Saturday, March 23,at the food festival.”
Mr. Lightbourne continued, “Tickets to attend the competition are available at www.premiertickets.bm. The cost is $30.00 for each night or $75.00 for all three nights. The audience will be able to sample the foods prepared by the chefs and Gosling’s will provide free beverages.
“Throughout the week participating restaurants will feature daily or a week’s special as part of the weeklong activities.”
Thomas Lightbourne added, “This week’s activities culminate with the street festival which will take place at Number One Car Park on Front Street. The festival will start at 2:00pm and end at 10:00pm. Hamilton restaurants and food establishments will set up booths where members of the public will be able to sample the array of food available. Booklets of five tickets are on sale for $40.00.
Each ticket can be turned in to the vendor for a plate of food or a drink.“An exciting new feature added this year will be the Gosling’s Grand Cru Wine Tent. The cost to enter the tent will be $50.00 and it will be open between 8:00pm and 9:00pm.
“In addition to the booths, there will be competitions throughout the day. As with last year, there will be a pie-eating contest. The rule for this contest is simple, the first person to eat an entire lemon meringue pie without using their hands, wins.
