Coach Manders Updates On Florida Tournament

March 21, 2013

After the first stage of the double round robin T20 competition Bermuda are second in the table with 3 wins from 4 games. The team has a day off today [Mar 21] before their double header tomorrow against Cayman at 10.00am and USA at 3.00pm at the Brian Piccolo Park.

Coach Manders stated, “I am fairly pleased with our progress to date although we certainly will not take any teams for granted in the remainder of the tournament. Our objective remains the same to be in the top 2 at the end of the tournament to qualify for the global World T20 qualifier in November.

“The squad went for a light jog this morning as part of a recuperation session lead by Craig Brown. Jason Anderson is still recovering from a bout of the flu therefore I expect to have 13 fit players for tomorrow.”

Coach Manders highlighted some of the performances thus far stating, there have been some impressive individual performances including the following;

  • garnering all four man of the match awards by Malachi Trott, Dion Stovell and Janeiro Tucker (2);
  • 4 batsmen in the tournament top 6 run scorers including Janeiro Tucker, Dion Stovell, David Hemp and Stephen Outerbridge; and
  • 3 out of 6 top tournament wicket takers including Malachi Jones, Janeiro Tucker and Rodney Trott.

Manders concluded, “Although we have some areas that we continue to work on, the squad is gelling together well and working hard on their respective roles.”

    The team is performing well on the whole, I am only looking for more consistency from the middle order in terms of scoring runs – the bowlers I think are performing well on the whole – I agree with coach Manders we are a little thin when it comes to the seam bowling department but lets not forget our skipper can bowl fast and if necessary we can get at least two overs of pace out of Jacobi – I would encourage the team to think outside of the box if it is required when it comes to tactics…

    As I predicted if Lionel Cann gets runs Bermuda will succeed, even though he opened and did not come in the middle order we are dependent on him to score some runs for us, we can’t depend on Janeiro all the time, after all it is a team sport..the big test is the afternoon against the USA, it is time to take out the trash…Go Bermie go…..

    Unfortunately we got hammered by the USA…very disappointed…can’t wait to hear what the coach has to say and read a full report on the game itself…we can however still get through if we win the rest of our games and the USA does not lose any of theirs…..
