QuoVadis Launches Service: Digital Signatures

April 24, 2013

QV_Signature_squareBermuda-based QuoVadis has launched the sealsign Signing and Validation Service, a simple and cost effective way for companies to enable their legacy systems to use legally compliant digital signatures.

With the rapid adoption of online workflows and document management systems, many companies grapple with the challenge to make their data tamperproof as well as to assert the origin and authenticity of their electronic documents.

“In many countries, there are specific laws that require companies to protect the data integrity of electronic records using technologies like digital signatures” said Roman Brunner, CEO of QuoVadis.

“Our Signing and Validation Service makes it easy for small-to-midsize companies to deploy digital signatures in workflows such as e-invoice and e-archive systems, meeting compliance obligations without complicated software integrations.”

QuoVadis was founded in Bermuda in 1999 as the first Authorised Certification Service Provider under the island’s Electronic Transactions Act, which lays the groundwork for legally binding electronic signatures. The company expanded to Europe in 2005 and is now an accredited issuer of digital certificates in Switzerland and the Netherlands, with involvement in major eID programmes such as the Swiss SuisseID and Dutch PKI Overheid.

The new ‘signing as a service’ platform is a natural evolution for QuoVadis, which already provides in-house enterprise software for large multinational companies used to digitally sign hundreds of millions of transactions each year. Case studies include retailers signing their outgoing e-invoices to make them tamperproof, companies scanning their paper archives who wish to protect the electronic copies, as well as financial institutions signing financial statements sent to customers to prove their authenticity.

“Our goal is to make digital signatures achievable for smaller companies. With the fast installation of our sealsign broker companies can enable their legacy software, as well as securely access their signing platform and credentials securely hosted at QuoVadis” continued Mr. Brunner.

“For a reliable annual subscription, QuoVadis provides the entire signing capability as a service. We’ve also worked with solution partners to create modules for frequently used software in our markets including Document Management, Customer Relationship Management, Enterprise Resource Planning, and e-invoicing systems.”

To assure confidentiality, the original data and documents never leave the customer’s systems. The sealsign broker communicates only a computed digest value with QuoVadis via an encrypted connection for signing.

Given its wide range of uses, the sealsign Signing and Validation Service can sign all file types ranging from XML to Microsoft Word to PDF. sealsign provides a range of signature formats as well as customisable ‘signature stamps’ for PDFs. The service supports the UN/EDIFACT standards for e-invoicing, and can also provide trusted time-stamps for proof of transaction time. The service can also verify incoming documents to make sure their signatures and credentials are valid.

QuoVadis will market the sealsign Signing and Validation Service throughout Europe.
