BGA Announces Team For 2013 Island Games

The Bermuda Golf Association are pleased to announce the selection of eight players to represent Bermuda at the upcoming 2013 NatWest Island Games to be contested from 15th – 18th July 2013 at the Port Royal Golf Course.

The team selected to represent the women will consist of Ebonie Burgess, Katrin Burnie, Elizabeth Parsons and Ann Symonds. The men’s team will consist of Mitchell Campbell, Jarryd Dillas, Mark Phillips and Jevon Roberts.

Ebonie Burgess won the 2013 Bermuda Public Links Championship and the 2013 Bacardi World Par-3 Championship. She has represented Bermuda for golf in three previous Island Games, highlighted by her team Gold medal at the 2009 Games in Aland, and her individual and team Silver medals at the 2005 Games in the Shetland Islands, respectively.

Katrin Burnie was runner-up at the 2013 Bermuda Public Links Championship, the 2012 & 2013 Bacardi World Par-3 Championships, the 2012 Bermuda Amateur Match Play Championship and the 2012 Bermuda Amateur Four Ball. She has represented Bermuda in the Island Games on three previous occasions, highlighted by her team Gold medal at the 2009 Games in Aland.

Elizabeth Parsons is the reigning Bermuda Amateur Four Ball winner and the 2012 Bermuda Mixed Championship winner. She was runner-up at the 2012 Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play Championship, winner of the 2012 NSGA Girls Midget Championship in Canada, and is currently Bermuda’s top-ranked junior girl golfer. This will be her second time representing Bermuda in the Island Games.

Ann Symonds is the reigning Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play Champion and Bermuda Amateur Match Play Champion. She was fourth at the 2013 Bermuda Public Links Championship. She has won each of Bermuda’s major Championships at least once. This will be her first time representing Bermuda.

Mitchell Campbell is the reigning Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play Champion, the 2012 Bermuda Junior Match Play Champion, and is currently Bermuda’s top-ranked junior boy golfer. This will be his first time representing Bermuda at the senior level.

Jarryd Dillas is the reigning Bermuda Amateur Match Play Champion, the reigning Bermuda Amateur Four Ball winner and the 2013 Bermuda Public Links Champion. He has represented Bermuda in the Island Games on two previous occasions, highlighted by his individual and team Gold medals at the 2009 Games in Aland.

Mark Phillips was low amateur at the 2012 Hilton Head Island Open. He graduated from the University of South Carolina Beaufort last May and is currently residing in the United States. During his senior year he won the 2012 Sand Shark Classic and was named to the 2012 NAIA Ping All-Region team. This will be his first time representing Bermuda at the senior level.

Jevon Roberts was low amateur winner at the 2013 Bermuda Open and is the 2013 Bacardi World Par-3 Amateur Champion. This will be his first time representing Bermuda.

The International Island Games were founded in the Isle of Man in 1985 and today include 24 member islands in, or associated with, the nine sovereign nations of Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the UK, plus the Caribbean. Since 1999 NatWest has been the title sponsor for the Island Games, which have become one of the largest international multi-sport events in the world, behind the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics. This year there will be 89 participants competing in the golf events from 16 different member islands.
