Breakaway Suffers Damage From Bad Weather

May 27, 2013

Norwegian Breakawayl, Dockyard Bermuda May 15 2013-17The Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship, Breakaway, sustained exterior damage from bad weather conditions while at sea, Cruise Critic reports.

A NCL spokesperson told the cruise website, “While returning from Bermuda to New York last night, Norwegian Breakaway encountered winds exceeding 50 knots. The high winds caused some of the outermost sections of the forward balcony dividers on Deck 8 to become dislodged. There were no injuries to guests or crew. We expect the affected balconies to be operational for the next cruise departing today.”

Cruise Critic reports that one of their members who was onboard the ship said the cabin dividers began rattling and then broke apart. “There were panels, metal segments, bolts and debris everywhere, and I can only imagine the similar damage elsewhere on the decks…” he said.

The Breakaway last left Bermuda on May 24th, and is due to return on May 29th.

50 MPH plus winds start to wreck the ship…

Add to this the Fire on the Grandeur of the Seas which has cancelled its next stop to Bermuda – surprised this has not been reported yet. We should hope the Breakaway does not have structural flaws or our income in Bermuda will be severely impacted.
