Disabled Fishing Vessel Gets Towed To Safety

Three persons on a fishing trip to Challenger Bank found themselves with a disabled boat on Saturday [May 11] afternoon and contacted Harbour Radio for assistance. Urgent marine broadcasts resulted in another fishing vessel attending the scene and towing the disabled vessel back inshore.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “On Saturday 11th May, Bermuda Radio received a VHF Radio Call from a local fishing vessel located at Challenger Bank to the South West of Bermuda with 3 persons on board, they reported the vessel was disabled due to a flat battery.

“Bermuda Radio commenced urgent marine broadcasts requesting assistance from any vessels in the vicinity able to assist. Another local fishing vessel “Last Chance” kindly offered to tow the disabled vessel back inshore, and they returned safely to their mooring’s.”

    I’m happy in hearing they were recued and safely towed ashore by no other than another vessel entitle, “Last Chance” :-)
    In reality, it may have been just that,”their last chance”Try to always have”extra fuel and battery along
    with E.M.S. gear along with you when going out to sea, but especially when traveling out to the, “Banks”
