Museum Uses New Way To Promote Old Artifacts
An institution dedicated to the promotion of old artifacts is using a modern way to do so, with the Bermuda National Museum recently making its debut on the photo sharing app Instagram.
The Museum — formerly known as the Bermuda Maritime Museum — has been sharing photos of the Museum and surrounding areas on Instagram, which allows for photo posting from mobile apps. The social network has over 80 million registered users who have shared nearly 4 billion photos.
With studies citing young people’s declining enthusiasm for social media giant Facebook, and growth on other social networks such as Instagram, Tumblr and Snapchat, the Museum is showing themselves to be rather savvy by hopping on the newest trends.
The Museum, located at the western end of Bermuda at the old Royal Naval Dockyard, works to explore, preserve, and interpret Bermuda’s history and heritage.
With more than 30,000 objects in the Museum’s diverse collections, including photographs, documents, plans, books, oral testimonies, archaeological specimens, boats, ship models, and maritime artifacts, the facility is the island’s most visited museum.
