Lawrence Wins Bronze Medal In Northern Ireland

Police Officer Shannon Lawrence has won Bermuda’s first medal at the 2013 World Police & Fire Games in Northern Ireland, capturing a bronze medal in the Cycling Hill Climb Event.

Lawrence, who also won a medal at the recent Island Games, finished 3rd in his age group and 10th overall in a field of 98 competitors.

The Games are being hosted in Belfast from 1 – 10 August 2013, with an estimated 7,000 competitors from over 60 countries competing in around 56 sports.

The concept of promoting sport and fraternity within the police and fire fighting communities began in 1967, with the staging of the first ever California Police Olympics. This concept grew and led to the establishment of the World Police & Fire Games Federation in 1983, with the first Games taking place in San Jose in 1985.
