Slideshow: Beach Tennis At Elbow Beach
Saturday [Aug 10] was a day of beach sports with Horseshoe Bay hosting volleyball, while Elbow Beach was the spot for beach tennis organized by local promoter Tony Brannon. Two courts were set up on the sand with tennis paddles, balls and beverages on hand. Beach tennis is played mostly as doubles, teams of two, but can be played as singles and today was played 3-a-side.
ELBOW BEACH
Well it seems the GM of the ELBOW BEACH hotel wants to ban BEACH TENNIS on the “public side” claiming that Elbow Beach owns the BEACH !
We all know that Bermudians are all allowed access to ALL beaches….there is some law about this right being up to the HI WATER mark…..
Well we are certainly well within our rights to play BEACH TENNIS at ELBOW BEACH since the hi water mark can extend all the way up the beach during the extreme hi tides……So Hi water mark is where the tide would come up to at its highest point. The fact that a hotelier on a “work permit” would choose to dictate to Bermudians how they can use a public beach is indeed insulting and plain wrong. There is a lot more to this situation, but suffice it to say, I will be playing BEACH TENNIS this Wednesday at ELBOW BEACH public side at 5.30 as the local players are getting ready to play in the ITF BEACH TENNIS event in 2 weeks time….
