Bradford Boss Praises Wells’ Professionalism

September 11, 2013

With his stellar play last season, a year in which he struck 26 goals in only 54 games, Bermudian footballer Nahki Wells has had the sports world buzzing, with more than one team showing interest in obtaining the rights to the 23-year-old from his current club in Bradford, but that hasn’t stopped him from leaving his business behind closed doors as he continues to go to work for his team each day.

Following an impressive 4-0 victory over Carlisle on Saturday – in which Wells scored yet another goal – Bradford boss Phil Parkinson went on the record about the his young phenom’s character and commitment throughout the transfer speculation.

“The transfer window has now passed and we have managed to keep hold of him, which is a credit to the board,” Parkinson told the media following the game. “It is also a credit to Wells because not once has he banged on my door wanting to know about any moves or speculation about him. He has just got on with his job. For such a young lad, that is a great credit to him and his family.”

Where Wells will end up following this season remains to be seen; given just how in demand his services are expected to be, there is no doubt that long terms and large amounts of money will be bandied about in an attempt to retain him. Still, Parkinson has no doubt that Wells will continue to handle his superstar status with the same professionalism that he’s become known for over the past few months.

“I have dealt with young players before who have been linked with moves away and it can be not easy. Wells’ focus has been top class.”
