Employment Workshop To Be Held On Nov. 13th

November 12, 2013

In the spirit of collaboration, the Department of Workforce Development will join with Independent MP Terry Lister in hosting an employment workshop aimed at helping to get Bermudians back to work.

The “Job Interviewing and Soft Skills Workshop” will be held on Wednesday, November 13, from 9.00 a.m. – 12.00 p.m. at the Somers Isles Lodge, in Somerset.

The goal of the event is to provide guidance on interviewing and résumé preparation, communicating effectively and provide inspirational testimonials on overcoming personal obstacles.

The Minister of Home Affairs Michael Fahy said, “We are very pleased to partner with MP Terry Lister in what we believe is a tremendously worthwhile initiative.

“The Premier has challenged all Ministers and Parliamentarians on both sides of the aisle to make a genuine effort to engage in collaborative ways for the good of Bermuda, and the Ministry of Home Affairs has taken up the Premier’s call to action.

“Mr. Lister is the area MP and as such, he has a vested interest in the well being and success of his constituents and we cannot help but support his commitment.

“The Department of Workforce Development is happy to do our part by providing the right tools and resources to help prepare Bermudians for this changing workforce environment. And it is my hope that we can do more collaborative ventures such as this in other areas of the community.”

Those attending Wednesday’s workshop should bring copies of résumés for review. For more information, interested individuals should call the Department of Workforce Development at 297-7714 ext. 1422 or email gjjoell@gov.bm.

So after my resume has been reviewed and my interviewing skills are second to none, then what??

Many of us have good resumes and excellent interviewing skills but have been unemployed for a few years.

    Any hope for us?

But do you show up for an interview with a heavily tattooed neck, a hair scully or conduct personal conversations on your cell phone while being interviewed?

Do you show up with children, spouse, best friend in tow?

Can you be reached when called or is connectivity based on “money on your phone”? though you rock $70 acrylics and $300 weave?

If your answer is no to all of these questions, I would love to offer you a job…

      • Malachi says:

The answer to all these questions is NO!

I was made redundant a few years ago (IB sector) and my cell phone was ALWAYS off during working hours, was NEVER late, and almost always worked through my lunch. Was never rude to anyone, and went out of my way to help where I could.

If you have a job for me I will gladly take it – no matter what it is!
